Hmmm, now I think we've been had. With a name like HustlinUguys and an attempt to get someone to tell him it's OK to violate Federal and state laws, I'd venture a guess that the poster isn't on the "up and up."

    I'd suggest a ban.

The name was the first thing I saw as well. Not locked for now, but HUG - there is no workaround that doesn't involve either using a CA FFL or you moving to OR, quit trying to find one please.
If it was a snake, it would have bit me.
Use the goog to search calguns

Alright guys. Thanks for all your help. I was just trying to find a loop-hole that would make it a little easier. I would hope that you don't ban me as i was just trying to look at the technicalities and find a way around it. I am a law student after all I hope to contribute to the forum constructively and the only way for me to do that is learn from you guys. And the name is from the old poker days. Thanks Guys.

Ok so now to get it straight. Have my family friend ship like (UPS or Fedex) the handgun to a local FFL that I have prearranged and then do the transfer in CA. Also did i read that there was a limit that a FFL could charge you for a private 2 private party transfer like $25?

There is a limit for a PPT between to CA residents (I think it is $10 plus the $25 DROS). Since your friend is an OR resident and he is shipping the gun to CA the FFL can charge whatever he wants. My FFL only charges $25 plus DROS, but from what I hear it is hard to find one that cheap down south.

Check into Roger's Relics in Santa Clara. Cheap out-of-state transfers seem to be their claim to fame.

Don't mind us, we're just paranoid.

Also, make sure the gun is on the "safe handgun roster." It would suck to ship it here, then find out they can't transfer it to you.

That's exactly right. I misread the post, sorry guys.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I also have a question on the use of that form.

My father has a large number of firearms he wants to give me. I'm talking 20+. he lives in Nebraska and I live in Kali. I was told on another forum by a Kali ffl dealer that I could use that form to handle the transfer of the firearms and save a ton of money.

I take it from what I have read here that this is not true?

Any info is appreciated. I don't want to break any fed. or state laws, just wanted to save a chunk of change.

                      Thanks,
                      John
And in all fairness, just because JMB did it doesn't mean anything. He'd have won WWII with a soup can, a fork, and a couple rocks. Seriously, even McGuyver and Steven Hawking get together every now and then and are like "How the **** did he do that?..."

You are correct in thinking that the Kali FFL on the other forum gave you bad info.

Sadly, the only way you can get all of those guns into the State without spending a chunk of change is to wait until your father passes away. If he leaves them to you when he dies, then both Federal and California law allow you to take possession of the guns without going through an FFL.

Otherwise you are stuck having to get the guns shipped to a California FFL to do the transfers. The Dealers I know would probably charge close to $1000 for transfering that many guns. Maybe you can find one who will give you a volume discount for a transfer from your father. Also, if any of the guns are handguns that aren't on the California approved list, you will have trouble finding an FFL willing to transfer them to you from out of state. Since they are a gift from your father they are exempt from the approved list, but the way the law is written makes it hard for many FFL's to realize this when the gift is coming from out of state.

This is true. We know BoF reads up here, and at least one member of another anti-gun group. There's a bit of evidence that we're being watched by the Brady Bunch, too.

I'm in a similar situation regarding an out of state purchase from a private party. My questions are now answered, and in a very timely manner. This website is great, thanks!

                                Amendment II:

Thanks for the info. I have another question for you. I have been out of the gun hobby for 15 plus years and am just getting back into it. Where can I find this "approved handgun list"? I assume that since my Dad hasn't bought a handgun in over twenty years that all his would be good to go?

                                Thanks again,
                                John
