Help I need tips on how to sell a gun

Ok I was just wondering what the steps are selling a handgun? Obviously u would have to have an ffl dros but where would u meet first to make the deal? At a gun shop? Thanks again I've bought guns from shops just never sold one thanks for any advise...

If you don't know the potential buyer, I would meet in a public place that is gun friendly, such as a gun shop.
Since you don't mention where you are advertising your gun for sale, use your common sense, you don't want to be "jacked" for your firearm.

CalGuns always worked for me for selling. Ince you work out at deal, you got to an FFL to make the transfer.

There is also Gun Broker, but they take a piece off the top. In my experience FTF is the way to go, just less hassle.

The transfer has to be done through a dealer (PPT), so the dealer has to do the paperwork.

Same here, numerous FTF PPT's with Calguns members, all of them worked out great.

Sometimes they do, because they only make $10 on the transfer. But you have to meet at an ffl for the transfer, so it's best to do the whole deal there.

Maybe meet in the parking lot first so it doesn't look like you're using their sales floor for your private transaction. Post pictures or otherwise make them available to the buyer so they won't show up and say "oh, your Glock is black, I wanted a pink one, sorry" or whatever. If the buyer is happy, go indoors and tell the people inside you need to do a private party transfer. The gun store will handle the rest.

I've done a couple of FTF transfers at gun shops. The deals were already made and I had seen pictures of the firearms. The only thing left was a physical inspection. The seller and I met in the shop. I told them why we were there. I inspected the firearm, and handed the seller an envelope with exact amount we agreed upon previously. The shop started the paperwork, when it was done we shook hands and left. Never got any bad vibe or comment from any shop employees.

Be careful with that, if the gun doesnt sell or you want it back for any reason...you have to go through full DROS paperwork just as if you were buying it new to get it back.

In other words, if you dont mind waiting ( Sometimes a good while ) ...and if you are 100% sure you dont want it back for any reason ...then consignment is fine.

Just do it with respect for the shopowner, as in not counting cash on his display cabinet and you should be allright.

Have you considered how it would look at business owners in the area to have people handling firearms in the parking lot??? Especially the firearms dealer!!! Could it be that they are planning on robbing the place and are just stupid? Are you so sure that no one would see the firearm?

It would be far better to talk to the FFL and see what they would prefer. I suspect that most would prefer that you come inside and not scare people.
