I live in a gated community in Northridge, and being on the HOA Board I heard about this last weekend. Looks like it went mainstream today:

The Times tends to hates guns, and it shows a little in the article. I only met Brian a few times at some meetings. So sad.

The incident happened in Sorrento off Mason North of Rinaldi. The same community of that murder suicide a few years back.

Rule #2...never point a gun at anything that you've not made the decision to destroy.
Rule #3...finger straight and OFF THE TRIGGER until you've acquired sight picture, and have made the CONSCIOUS DECISION TO FIRE.
Rule #4...know your target, and what's beyond.

This was an accident based on two friends who were drinking and not following the proper safety precautions in the handling of the rifle.

The article mentioned alcohol was involved.. If so.. DUMB move... Horrible tragedy that could have been avoided if the buddy knew how to handle his weapons.

It bugs me that they feel the need to mention the ar-15 as a (military style) weapon.... irrelevant IMO.... just say it was a rifle.

Changed from accidental to homicide. Re-arrested for murder. Motive possibly discovered?

Wow, these people are brilliant... They found out that one man killing another was a homicide. What's next, the sky is blue?

I'm sorry for your loss OP. Accidents like this can only be avoided through proper training and firearms handling. Have you considered making training available to those who live in your gated community? Instead of people being afraid of firearms they should at the very least understand them and how to safely handle one in an emergency.

This. I don't care who you are, gun safety is a MUST. I'm just saying, if things were like they were back when shooting was more popular than golfing and we actually TAUGHT our kids how to handle firearms, we'd get rid of most ND injuries/deaths. FACT.
