Outdoor range membership: Worth it?

Love the outdoor range (South Bay Rod & Gun Club) near my home.

1st target is free. $20 per visit, or $75 yearly membership with no additional fees. Makes sense to become a member if you shoot there more than 4 times a year.

Plus, the .mil guys sometimes bring out their toys to play so you get to see some cool stuff!

The price & pictures are pretty amazing haha. I'd be a member immediately at Prado if they had the same fees going on

I was "this" close to starting towards becoming a member in the WEGC, until I read a thread on this board about all the legal issues between members and management.

Been a member of WEGC for the last 10 years, and shot there for 5-6 years before joining. Best shooting investment I ever made.

Downsides:
We're in a canyon that gets some rain damage during really heavy rain seasons every few years. But we're making improvements to minimize the damages. And a lot of the damage is due to the big fire that swept thru the club and most of the San Bernardino mountains a few years ago.
With over a 1000 members, you can't please all the people, all the time. This last board election didn't go the way a few wanted, so they filed a lawsuit. In today's world everybody sues for any reason. We're not worried about it.

Upsides:
$180 a year for unlimited 7 day a week access, 24 hours a day, for you, family, and friends.
We own, free and clear the 75 acres that the Club sits on.
We're surrounded by Natl Forest, so no housing developments to sue us over noise and safety issues.
Shooting is unlimited, rifle, pistol, shotgun, black powder, etc, from 10 yards to 600 yards.

the 24 hour camping access to me is one of the BIG BIG plus's for WEGC compared to CSC.

Used to shoot at Lytle Creek, and then discovered West End. Thumbs up for West End. 24-hr access is great. Always wanted to camp overnight but haven't yet. Been there few times at night alone. Ain't for faint-hearted. Eerie when you're all alone in 80 acres of wilderness at midnight. Having a truck or 4x4 is highly recommended, esp, these days with creek water running.

West End,,,,, nice place to shoot. Lots of good people up there and unless there is a discipline match going it is never an issue to find a nice private spot to shoot with your buds.

All that legal crap came from two guys. It's the old saying, one bad apple,,, in this case it was two. Don't let that BS deter you from joining a great club. Go on line, fill out the application, come to a meeting in Ontario,, go thru the one hour safety course and boom,, you are a member in good standing.

And yes, at midnight by yourself their are a lot of things that seem to move in the bushes. LOL Great place to camp too. There is tap water that is fed by a spring. Drank it for a lot of years but now they say to be careful,,, of course I drink the water in Mexico :0 It's better then those high priced body flushes!!!
