In case any of you out there are owners of an "Evans Special," and take comfort in that DOJ "approval letter," bear this in mind: taxpayers who call the IRS for advice on how to fill out their returns and follow that advice still owe taxes and penalties to the IRS if it turns out the IRS gave them bad advice and wrong answers. If that same legal situation applies to listed lowers and DOJ letters, then the DOJ letter is zero cover for you, and you might want to invest in an OLL to replace the lower in your "Evans Special" since a felony conviction, or simply defending against felony charges, costs a whole lot more than the $200 you'd put into buying and DROSing a proper OLL.
Food for thought. Carry on!
