    Persian Army vs Marines...

    http://photos.tmz.com/galleries/flat...ecent&id=15198 ).

Anyways, so here are the Gladiators:

    Persian Army:
According to Herodotos, the force including the attendants, was exceeding the five million men and the Persian fleet numbered to 1207 ships. The vast army was consisted from 1,700,000 foot soldiers, 80,000 cavalry and 20,000 Lybians and Arabians, with chariots and camels.(http://www.sikyon.com/athens/ahist_eg02.html)

    Marines:
In the United States Marine Corps, rifle platoons are led by a platoon commander, usually a second lieutenant. The billet of Platoon Sergeant is a position intended for a Staff Sergeant(E-6). A Weapons platoon will usually have a Gunnery Sergeant(E-7) because of the larger number of Marines and the different weapon systems included in these platoons. In a Marine regiment, rifle platoons usually consist of three rifle squads of 13 men each, usually led by a Sergeant(E-5). Each squad is further divided into three fireteams. A weapons platoon replaces the three squads with a 60mm mortar section, an assault section, and a medium machine gun section. The assault section consists of dual-purpose rockets such as the FGM-172 SRAW.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platoon

Well, for one, the Persian army was never that big.

I believe the correct answer is:

1 ****load, which also happens to be 2.4 ***loads if you're using the metric system.

If you are talking about a Marine Infantry Battalion like, let's say, 2/4 "The Magnificent Bastards" then you would have Echo,Fox,Golf,Weapons, and H&S Company. About 500 Strong give or take.

Even without air support (AH-1...etc) heavy armor (AAV,M1..etc), or artillery, each Bn. has up armored Hummvves with turret shields armed with. 50Cal,M240G,MK19 Automatic 40mm grenade launcher,TOW Missiles, and Javelins. The grunts all have M16A4 (20" Barrel) with ACOG's, some with M249 machine guns, M16 with M203 grenade launchers, AT-4.... oh yeah i forgot, Weapons Co. have mortar crews.

With that said, 500 Marines with their standard armament with unlimited ammo would genocide those Persians. Betwen the Mortars, the. 50 cal going along with the 240G and MK19 grenades showering over them.... not to mention all remaining grunts blasting away at least from a 600yrd standoff distance.... it wouldn't even be fair.

You want to look up real world Kill to Death ratios of Marines, read about Guadacanal, and the Chosin Reservor.

The Marines don't need unlimited ammo. They just need 1,800,000 rifle rounds. Let a Coast Guard cutter take care of the ships.

They'll be home in time for dinner...BBQ camel...cooked on grills made from the chariots...

not much of a contest, and I'd actually be suprised if the Persian army could get within 200 yards, especially if the Marines had unlimited ammo...TOW missles and Javelins would decimate, as would the .50 cals....not even close.

I imagine it would end the same way for the Marines as it did the Greeks...those are some pretty unfair numbers.

The Marines have 1 Platoon in flat terrain? Against the entire Persian army?

The Marines would be dealing with a 360 degree front, since the Persians would be able to easily surround them. The Persians would lose troops as they figure out the range of the Platoons weapon systems. Once they surround them they could hold them at siege and starve them or attack, their choice. If the Persians chose to attack, they would do so from all sides at once. The Marines would kill many hundreds of Persians before they were overrun and killed.

The Persians would call it a great victory, even though the numbers are one-sided against them.
