    Consignment rates, experiences

Though it would be a good thread to see where people consign guns if they do so at all like I do occasionally and what rates different places charge, what rules they have, how fast they sell(hard to gauge though, depends on desireability of gun, price set, ect, ect.

I consign guns generally where I think they may sell. "Tactical" stuff may do better somewhere else and cowboy stuff somewhere else. Turners I think charges 25% but after like 60 days unless this has changed I think they can make you lower the price, not sure if they let you name a price either.

I was planning on consigning a gun at Grant Boys but they wanted 40%! No wonder the consignment case has been dry there. Flag used to charge 15%, I bet that changed especially since I have seen their astronomical prices at the gun shows.

LA Guns was like 25% I think but if they got told a lower price by a potential buyer I think they sometimes would say OK and take the reduction out of their cut in certain cases.

I personally usually do them at Western firearms on Gage and Atlantic, used to be 20% but recently changed to 25% though. You can ask a decent to high price though and usually get it if you wait. I sold a Plainfield M1carbine for $350 there though a $425 Russian SKS sat for a year and didn't sell though I admit that was high as was the Plainfield.

I'm in the Sacramento area and regularly use J&G Gunsmithing in Roseville. They're a small shop, but move a ton of consignment guns through their shop. They'll do tactical stuff, long guns, handguns, old, new, you name it. They have an established clientel and I've had excellent experiences selling on consignment and buying those hard to find guns there. The guys are super knowledgeable, friendly, and easy to work with. They charge 20% to consign and I've yet not to get what I wanted from any gun I've consigned there. If you're in the area, I highly recommend you check 'em out.

My latest find there, an S serial number 6 1/2" blued 4-screw S&W Mdl 29 (no dash), with the original "Coke bottle" grips in excellent condition for $550. Yeeeeha!!

Maybe I should raise my consignment fee I ony charge 15 %

One of the most important rules is ,your going to have to DROS firearms back to yourself if they go in the dealers books, should you change your mind about selling.

Turners at 30% now? Wow! And 15% is low nowadays but that might mean more folks consigning through you instead of the competition. And I was aware of having to reDROS a gun that didn't sell back to myself but I usually just lower the price a bit if needed to have it sell.

I agree, they are a good place, they do trades and give you a fair price. I thought this was the mdl 29 I traded in, but mine was nickle fininsh.
