    Calguns, help me spend $1000

Okay, so later this year, probably around late summer or early fall, I should find myself with an extra grand or so and nothing to spend it on So, that is where I need your help. I want to spend it on something gun related and I have narrowed it down to three options:

    1. New handgun and CCW permit. I currently have only one handgun, a CZ 75B. It's a great handgun but I think it is too bulky to carry concealed. I would like to get something compact (probably either a CZ 2075 RAMI or a 1911 with a 3-4" barrel, but that is a subject for another topic) and use it to get my CCW. Now, a CCW permit is not something that I feel I really really need. If I got one I doubt I would carry more than once or twice a week (mainly when I travel to Stockton ). I don't feel I have to have one, but I would like the option.

    2. AR-15 Carbine. I have one AR already in an SPR configuration. It's a great gun but a little on the heavy side. It's really most ideal for medium to long range shooting. I would like to get a light weight carbine for short to medium range shooting.

    3. Optics upgrades. As mentioned earlier, I have an AR-15 in an SPR configuration. It currently has a Weaver Grand Slam Tactical 3-10x40 scope. I also have a Remington 700 SPS Varmint with a Wotac. These are both decent scopes, but not great, especially the Wotac. I would like to upgrade them both to Vortex Viper PST's: a 2.5-10 for my AR and a 4-16 for my R700. If I went with this option, I probably would also have enough money left over to pick up a stripped lower to get started on the previous option as well.

So Calguns, what do you guys think? I also have a reloading setup in the back of my mind (if AB962 would have gone into effect, I definitely would be getting a reloading setup), and maybe a couple other things, but these are the three options that I currently find the most tempting.

You can never have enough handguns. IMO, every shooter needs a minimum of two handguns.

I spent $300 of my State tax refund here: https://calgunsfoundation.org/resour...nitiative.html

Use $500 to buy a handgun, and once the CGF has done their work, you'll be able to get the CCW for well under $200 and buy some ammo.

          I'm actually leaning more toward a 4" 1911, assuming I go the 1911 route.

I've actually been thinking about starting to contribute $5 a month to the CGF.

J frame to pocket carry, and a permit. Everyone already has that other stuff. Rami is a great choice for CCW, but you will find the J frame goes everywhere.

I just tried to donate $5 to CGF, but it told me "Contribution amount must be at least 10.00." So I gave $10 instead. I suppose I could swing $10 a month, but I have been considering giving small amounts to a couple other organizations as well and it all adds up.

Might I recommend going for a true commander length. That or save your $1k.

This is the 1911 I'm considering the most at the moment. But to be honest with you, I really don't want to make this topic to be about what gun I should get for a CCW, only whether or not I should get any gun for a CCW versus my other two options. If I decide to get a pistol for a CCW, then I will start a whole new topic to debate exact models.

                        Why not?

                        I vote handgun and ccw.

Edit: I would look into an M&P compact in whatever caliber fits you.

I would get the reloading setup and a hand gun.
