The firearms arena is one where not everyone has the experience, training and judgment that is truly necessary. Put another way, this was a LEARNING OPPORTUNITY for the novice holding the gun. The employee should have stopped him and educated him immediately. It did not happen so the education job was yours to carry out - PROMPTLY. No need to be rude or abrasive, but the situation called for control and correction. That individual had no clue he was being an unsafe *** and breaking all gun handling protocols. He remains in the same state of stupidity now.
Be a good GUN SAFETY EDUCATOR - you could save someone's life or maybe a punch in the chops.Comment

OK, not trying to hijack, but gotta gloat a little about my wife. Formerly anti and totally ignorant about firearms, now pretty darn competent, she was showing her lifelong friend (current anti) her revolver and explaining her attraction to shooting when her friend started to turn toward us with finger on trigger to say something. Wifey acted reflexively and moved and pushed me toward the kitchen so a wall would be between us and her friend(cover/concealment) and before I could open my mouth she yelled "GET YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER AND POINT THAT THING SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!" Her friend, now becoming meeker and complying said "But it's unloaded." Wifey replied "IT DOESN'T MATTER!!!!" Went from Kindergarten teacher to drill sergeant in a millisecond. After that she took a breath and said "OK. . ." and gave a little spiel about basic gun safety. I think her friend was impressed with the focus on safety and left several hours later with the impression that shooters aren't a bunch of wild cowboys. Next time might even bring her along to the range.
Told her after her friend left she done good and suggested next time she stand close enough to block the barrel with her finger because people without muzzle discipline with instinctively turn toward you with gun in hand when they respond. But other than that she really surprised me in a good way.NRA Lifetime Member

Was your finger off the trigger?
I don't see a problem with shaking the brass out while you still maintained control of your firearm safely.

I was showing my buddy my gun with the mag out, empty chamber. He's like wow it's lighter than I thought. I put the magazine in and said here's what it feels like with a loaded mag. He takes it and the first thing he does is pull the trigger.
