    Near death experience!?...

I went to Valkerie Arms today to see if I could order a out-of-state single shot coversioned gun. It was crowded but not packed. Waited a little while and then I was helped.

Walked up to the counter and stated my inquiry. The gentleman behind the counter handed me a form to fill out my requested information. All fine and good so far.

As I started filling out the paper, another gentleman walked up to the counter on my left, pink cell phone in hand, and he was relaying the question to the counter guy from whoever he was talking to on the phone:

"Do you have a P26?" pink cell
    "What's a P26?" counter guy
    "I think it's a 266" pink
    "You mean a P226?" counter.
    "Yeah"

Then pink went behind me to converse further on his phone. Counter guy took a Sig P226 out and put it on the counter.

Without doing a normal clear. No dropping the mag, racking the slide, or just push-and-peek into the chamber. Just to make sure. No. Just took it out and put it on the counter. To my right side now.

Pink guy then walked up, picked up the gun and said:

"Wow, is this a big caliber gun?"

While holding his gun in his right hand, pointing straight at me, finger in the trigger. I thought... I don't like this... I took 2 steps backward.

As pink cell phone pulled the trigger.

    Thankfully the gun was empty.

    I left.

You should have spoke up. When it comes to firearms, safety is everyone's business, especially when it is your safety.

I also saw a G23 laying on the counter unattended with the mag in and the slide forward.

      Totally.Unattended.

So maybe the store operates to a different level than my level of comfort.

But man, the moments of seeing the guy's finger on the trigger, took 2 steps backward, and him pulling the trigger was almost surreal.

Is this the same Valkyrie Tactical, that is a CGN Vendor?

Even if it isn't, I would have made a BIG STINK! That is total BS, for the counterguy & the customer to to violate all the rules like that. We're not looking at cameras here, People.

I would go buy a Lotto Ticket Buddabelly, might just be your lucky day!
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Valkyrie Arms usually runs a tight shift. Please contact them and state your concern. Tim, the owner, is a cool guy.

As for the guy pointing the gun at you...seriously, I would have told him to point that FVCKING thing away from me or get frickin' dropped.

Truth is, I was a little upset when I left. Very mixed emotions: outraged, exasperated, incredulous, a little scared... many more...

And I really didn't want to make a scene when I was upset like that. I've talked to Tim 1 time from an earlier visit. I won't go back to the store, but if I ran into Tim somewhere someday, I'll cordially share the experience with him.

You did not have a near death experience. What you did witness was some careless actions by a few people. Personally, I'd have said something, especially to the person who was holding the gun as it's their responsibility alone to ensure the weapon is unloaded and safe at all times.

I think anyone who's set foot into a gun store or gun show has been swept by a weapon. Yes, it's unsettling, but no where close to a near death experience.

If a round would've went off, that would be near death. The actions were just dumb.

BTW, I had a total brain fart yesterday and I've been kicking myself and feel horrible for it. A hot shell fell into my shirt yesterday and without thinking I shook my shirt out, live weapon in hand still pointed downrange, but still slightly sideways and down. My reaction was completely inexcusable and stupid on my part. I've never done anything like that before and will never again. Thank God nothing happened. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

That being said, even the best of us do stupid things once in awhile. I also think that you should contact the shop so they too can re-evaluate their practices, such as I have for my mistake.

Just another case of the importance of situational awareness.

Trust your instincts, and act on them.

There is a great book written on this subject called

The Gift Of Fear, by Gavin DeBecker

It's not about guns, but a good read

                              No, you wouldn't have.

I go to valkryie arms on the weekly. Every time I have been handed a gun they have checked it before hand, as well as after I gave it back to them. While I agree with you that what happened was dangerous, I would also like to say that it is not typical of valkryie arms. I enjoy valkryie alot. They are a great shop, with great prices and the only shop where I actually enjoy to talk to the employees. I am not condoning what valkryie arms did(it was wrong in my eyes), I am just stating my experiences with them.
