California Resprocity Laws

Does everyone know how bad the reciprocity laws in California are? California does not respect any other state's CCW permit. Let's get this changed! What must we do to get this changed? I tried contacting my state representative Shannon Grove and state Senator Jean Fuller, but neither of them will contact me back. Do we need to petition? I'll do whatever it takes. Anyone with me?

AFAIK, no states recognize CAs permit and vice versa.

A reintroduction of the Thune Ammendment is the best route. Word on the street is that it will be attached to must pass legislation sometime next month, so Obama can't veto it without big drama. I'm hoping that the new version allows for use of non-resident out of state permits in CA, as last time that was not the case, but that's unlikely.

Don't expect our state legislature to pass a CCW reciprocity law. Ain't going to happen.

right, based on the previous wording of the proposed amendment, CA residents would not be able to carry in CA on an non-resident AZ (or other state) permit. We would need a CA permit to carry in CA. An AZ resident could carry in CA on his resident AZ permit, and person who did not live in CA or AZ could carry in CA on a non-resident AZ permit.

We all want to get this changed. And lots more besides. It's all being taken care of. In the Secret Underground CalGuns Headquarters there is a Master Plan for the reform of California gun law and full restoration of 2nd Amendment Rights. There are several exciting and excellent legal cases working their way through the courts, the latest ruling in the Nordyke case is expected soon. (Couple of weeks? Couple of months?) There are other court cases hanging fire pending the ruling in Nordyke.

I think a bigger issue is the fact that CA is not shall issue.....having residents of other states being able to carry here takes a back seat to the fact that most CA residents can't carry here.

Reciprocity would be nice but it's not as big of a deal as some other things. Nevada doesn't have reciprocity with any other state, neither does Oregon. But they do issue non resident permits! You aren't going to get one of those in California. That's one of the reasons I'm hesitant to move to Nevada or back to Oregon. While living in CA I can have a resident permit and one for all the states I visit. If I move out I'll never have a CA permit. Frustrating.
What we really need is non-resident permits and a Federal preemption along the lines of the "peaceable journey" laws some states have.

CA ccw is good in about 12 other states. Utah, Montana, Texas, etc.
