You know I do that :P

But yeah, I learned that trick here.

I am a lefty / right-eye dominant and no way can I switch hands. So I just tape my left eye when I shoot pistols and tape my right eye when I shoot rifles. This also trains me to keep both eyes open.

It sounds like a fair number of people deal with this just fine, including myself since I have been doing it unconsciously for a decade or two.
It also looks like some people switch back and forth. It's way easier for me to shut my right (weak) eye than my left (strong) It feels more natural, even though I shoot the other way around.
All this came about when I got my copy of "tactical Pistol Shooting" I opened to a random page and saw a test to find out eye dominance. I was pretty shocked to find that I was cross dominant...
It doesn't seem to slow down Hickok 45, if he really is CD. If I shoot half as good as him i'll be satisfied.

Either that, or will just shoot with both eye's closed...

        Eyepatch.

Get a nice black silk one and you can either be a Bond villain or a pirate.

Shooting with my weak eye isnt a problem, I have been doing it since I was a kid. The problem is, in order to use my dominant eye I would have to shoot left hand (for rifle)
An eye patch does sound cool though, maybe I'll get one to wear around town anyway...

I'm left eye dominant but I am right handed. I shoot the pistol with my left eye open, but when I shoot shotgun I keep my right eye open. From what I know some people can't do that, they literally could not physically keep their non-dominant eye open. Seems to me like that's not your case, then just shoot with your right eye open for shotgun/rifle.

Checking eye dominance is always one of the first things I do when instrucintg a new shooter. I encourage those that are cross-dominant to learn to shoot with the other hand. The left-handed shooters who have already gone through life adapting to right-handed things usually are more willing to try. However, those right-handed shooters willing to try usually learn to shoot other handed fairly quickly. Of course, if self-defense is part of the reason for learning to shoot I encourage doing some work with the other hand anyway.

Its weird, holding and aiming a pistol with either hand is no problem (that should have tipped me off right away). Its kinda cool, I can shoot strong or weak hand with almost no transition, but holding and aiming a rifle with my left hand/arm feels super awkward...
