DROS Residency Address Question

Ok, so i went to PPT something at Ammo Bros last week and my CA drivers license has my old parent's address up in norcal. So they said I need a 2ndary government document proving my address.

Strangely I've done DROS at straightline and never had any issues with this by using a cable utility bill.

Since I moved recently neither my car registration nor my license have the correct address on it. I asked if I could use something else like a property tax bill or a copy of my title to the house and they said those don't count as government documentation............

I found that last part particularly odd.....

Well either way I have to fulfill this portion on time of pickup, but
I changed my address for my registration about a week ago on the DMV website, but they said a printout wouldn't work as well and they don't mail you anything... any suggestions?

go to your local DMV and ask for a paper with your address on it. I did and it worked fine. it's just a dmv paper with watermark and your name and address printed on it.

Is it for a handgun? Handguns require second proof of address. Long guns do not. That might be why.

If his DL does not match his 4473 address, it doesn't matter if it is a long gun or a handgun, a government issued document matching the 4473 address must be shown.

If it is a handgun, then anything from the CA DOJ list will suffice, most common being vehicle registration or hard wired utility bill.

Go get a AAA card...They do DMV transactions at their office...I've never waited more than 10 minutes.

When you go to the DMV, ask for a printout of your vehicle registration with your new address on it and get a license change of address card. It's a little brown card the size of a license, that you write your new address on and then they stamp it. Now you have all you need, and time to read volumes a-x of the encyclopedia.

Some FFLs have stopped accepting this because of some conflicting info from ATF as to whether or not the "brown card" is acceptable. I've had a letter pending with ATF since the beginning of December. I think they're racking their brains on how they can legally tell me a government issued document that satisfies all the requirements in the law isn't "good enough".

Well the gun is already DROS at that location so I don't have much choice.

The thing that puzzles me is how they won't accept something like a property tax bill, or title...
Either way, looks like I'm in for a wait @ the DMV tomorrow... gonna be pretty upset if after waiting in line they still don't take the temporary registration reprint from the dmv....

Take your property tax bill or your title and show them a copy of your 4473 at section 20.b

Alternate Documentation (if driver's license or other identification document does not show current residence address)

And then show them what is defined as alternate documenation for the instruction on 20.b

There is no reason to wait in line for the DMV as long as you have a property tax bill with your name and your current address on it. If you really want to get crazy, tell them that since they can't read the instructions on their own 4473s, you want a full refund immediately.

Sorry, I can't stand FFLs that don't read the 4473 and make customers jump through extra hopes through their ignorance of their own forms that they fill out on a daily basis.

ok thanks for the info, i'll call up and ask.
I asked last time about property tax bill and they said "no, it has to be from the government" then I said "errr I'm pretty sure that is from the government" then they said "It doesn't count"

Thanks for the help (you saved me at least an hour wait in line today), called in. And they looked into it and said it would be ok. I don't know why they gave me contrary info last time.
