    Del Mar Gun Show

So I went to the gun show up in Del Mar this weekend... what a rip off! There were only a few booths there that actually had guns. When they did have guns they were usually terrible ARs or cheap *** shotguns. Other than that, it was a giant swap meet where half the stuff didn't even have anything to do with guns, and the half that did have to do with gun was all cheap made in China junk. Oh, and it cost $9 to park and $12 to get in.

Sorry for the rant, if you went and actually found it to be interesting, or got a good deal on something, then congrats. If you have never been but were thinking about it, think again.

$9 parking FTW! They really need to lower the admission fees and especially the parking fee for such a small crappy show. Last two times I went I found enough odds and ends and deals to at least break even or save money in the long run but DelMar after Glendale is a show I have very little problem in missing. Once again the CGN booth was not there either.

So is Del Mar usually not like that? It was my first time, and I doubt I would ever go again, but if they have been much better in the past, then I guess that is worth knowing.

No. It has been like that for quite some time now. I just go say hi to the guys working the CalGuns booth.

The guns there are common and over priced...

Nothing to get excited about unless you go there for the beef jerky and Beanie Baby booths.

^^^ That has been the running joke for a while now.

I have not set foot in that gun show for years now. Last time I believe was back in 96' and from the comments I have read so far, I did not miss much.

It has been the del mar gun accessories and crap show since the late 90s.

I'll be making the drive to Pheonix for my gunshow needs from now on. Absolutly nothing worth going to at Del-Mar.

Costa Mesa is only an extra 40 miles from my place and is well worth the drive over Del Mar.

I have to agree with some of the negative comments. I used to frequent the Del Mar gun show in the mid 90's., I got a lot of good deals on magazines back then. I stopped going for 15 years... I went last year in the fall of (2010) and was not too impressed. There were a fair number of booths with guns though. But I agree that they were mostly common. There was one safe vendor from Orange County with safes that were pretty cool and one vendor selling .50DTC rifles that was nice.

I recall trying to bargain with one vendor for a Mag Lula, and that went nowhere fast. I guess he didn't want my money. The parking is outrageous.

I think the State will sell the fairgrounds to the city of Del Mar and the city will ban gunshows and that will be the end of that.

I didn't even know it was scheduled and I usually keep track of stuff like that.

I remember going to Del Mar many many years ago and it was great! Lots of guns and good stuff---now, from what I am reading, it seems there is no real reason to go there. I MISS THE GREAT WESTERN!! Now THAT was a real gunshow!

Sorry to hear about your experience. I thought about going and taking a buddy who recently purchased a few handguns. Glad we didn't go after hearing about your experience. In recent years I have not heard great things about the Del Mar Gun Show. Ammo prices have sky rocketed, and the quality of guns are not great. Might have to make the drive to Costa Mesa and check it out.

I mainly go reloading supplies. Even though we pay the admission fee and parking I still save money on powder, primers, bullets and dies. I guess it's all on what your looking for!
