A bit OT, but lately I'm wanting something similar to Colt SAA to play with. What's on the stupid roster here in CA?

I used to be addicted to cowboy action shooting---but I got over it! Sold my 97s (three) , sold my Marlin levers (two), but kept my very old Rugers and a few Colt SAAs (.44 Special, of course)---my handle was "Rapido Pistola"---havn't shot cowboy for 15 years.

There are no SAA's on the roster.

Cuz SAA's and their clones are exempt from the roster as long as the barrel is 3" or longer.

That's not 100% accurate. There's some "edge cases" where it's really not.

Single action revolvers that hold at least five rounds AND are at least 7.5" long are exempt. The measurement must be parallel to the barrel.

An SA revolver with a Colt SAA-sized frame will generally make the limit with a 3" barrel - as long as it has a plowhandle grip frame. If it has a bird's-head grip frame, it likely won't.

Most single-action revolvers are exempt from the approved list. [PC 12133(a)]

SASS support for certain gun control laws is why the single-action revolver exemption for the approved list [PC 12133(a)] and the lever-action firearm exemption for the large capacity magazine laws [PC 12020(c)(25)(C)] exists.

                Penal Code 12133
                (a) The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to a single-action revolver that has at least a 5-cartridge capacity with a barrel length of not less than three inches, and meets any of the following specifications:
                (1) Was originally manufactured prior to 1900 and is a curio or relic, as defined in Section 478.11 of Title 27 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
                (2) Has an overall length measured parallel to the barrel of at least 7 1/2 inches when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel are assembled.
                (3) Has an overall length measured parallel to the barrel of at least 7 1/2 inches when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel are assembled and that is currently approved for importation into the United States pursuant to the provisions of paragraph (3) of subsection (d) of Section 925 of Title 18 of the United States Code.

Great info, shoulda done some more research. I didn't see squat on the roster, now I know why!

Looks like a lot of fun, I'm thinking a traditional caliber also suitable for a carbine, and I'll reload for it.

I didn't want to get all enamored with a particular gun then find out I could own it. I've been edumacated so I'm gonna have to start looking now.

                        Snake SASS 6179

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8Ca22Ds37I In this stage you had to shoot small pistol plates in line with each other that got progressively smaller AND farther away. You had to knock down the first to even see or shoot the Second and so on!

http://www.facebook.com/#!/video/vid...=1714934566370 Note due to the Black Powder smoke, I miss one rifle and one pistol. I'm shooting 1851 Colt Cartridge Conversions for my pistols. This stage you to recite a line from a movie (which I forgot!) prior to starting. Many stages have a theme to them based on a movie, Historical event or person.

                        Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

In the off chance that nobody pops up here and invites you to go with them, check your local gun store, chances are they'll no where and when a shoot in your area is. If one doesn't know, check another. It's alot of fun. You will need 2 six guns, a lever rifle and a shotgun. (all period correct in period correct calibers.) You might try searching the internet too.
