    Found an old gun.

I always hoped I would find one. One of my hobbies is collecting antique bottles. While exploring an 1890's ghost town, I did make a few underground finds. The green ink bottle is dated 1897. The aqua Ginger is 1880-1890, and the small clear one is early 1900. I have no idea what the pistol was other than a .32 cal, 5 shot pocket pistol. Any guesses?

Whenever I find something like this, I think about the miner, or early settler of Ca. that may have used it. How their life must have been. And how free they were!

That would real be a challenge. I'm sure that the internals are rusted through. Even electrolysis wouldn't save this one. But it would be cool if it was possible. It's probably over 100 years old and has been buried who knows how long. Even if it was a murder weapon, It could never be traced now. But this mining town existed from 1870 to 1930 and was known to be very religious and most likely a miners wife just didn't want it in the house.

that mine car didnt just get left there...there IS a mine nearby, you just didnt find it. Old story I once heard. If a group of miners was leaving the mine for a bit, like a year, they would cart the "signs" of a mine away, up to 2 or 3 miles sometimes. Thats why sometimes you find an abandoned cart, or a pile of rails, wood planks.

Old miners would bury a map to where their gear was at the mouth of their claim...or somewhere else. It wasnt wise to walk around with a map showing where your claim was and where all your gear was. Memory got them to the claim, and the hidden map was used to collect the gear....and a little gold stash too.

I grew up in the woods of New York on the Hudson River. I used to find stuff from a half dozen wars, declared and otherwise. Indian artifacts and military castoffs from who knows when.

I love San Diego, but the local stuff goes back to an inaccurate German translation at best.

This video was shot very close to where I grew up. Cool tune too.

                              It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.
