If you have nothing to worry about just buy a gun. If you fail the background check, research into why, the suspended licenses shouldn't matter, you should be good to go.

When my wife split I had to pay support and our daughter would not even see/speak to her mother and vice versa(the wife started it) for a year. Only after the court ordered our daughter(16 years old) to go to meeting with her mom did she. I still paid support for more than a year when 1) she had no contact with her daughter by her choice 2) our daughter lived with me the whole time and still does. I paid all cost in raising and educating our daughter.

I understand the screwing one gets with the so-called justice system-----BUT I still paid mine as I should. So in reality if you owe back money the so called "extra" is really not yours and not "extra". That said I do wish you the best and enjoy your new soon to order firearm.

OP - before you buy a handgun, invest in a small gunsafe to keep it out of the hands of the 8 yr old son, please.

                To the OP,
I have walked in your shoes bro, don't let some of these posters get you down.

I was a single dad who got legal custody of my son at the ripe old age of 2-1/2, the court ordered her to pay ME support. A year later she goes to the welfare office with just a picture of her and my son when he was 1-1/2 and was able to collect $500+ a month from them and they racked up a bill against me with no notification. TWO years later I get two sheriffs at my door on the morning of Christmas eve summoning me to court for NOT taking care of MY son sitting at MY kitchen table eating breakfast!!!!!!!

She got away with it, I got stuck with lawyers fees & bills. Justice system thinks all dads are deadbeat. The .gov always gets it wrong.

So don't let fools rip on you for taking care of your child when they don't know jack about your circumstance.

Check the Megans law website to find out how close the child-molesters are living to you & go buy that TLE/RL !!!! I too have that awsome 1911 and I flat out love it!

If your in the north bay I'll take you shooting with it.

Thanks for the info. I already have 2 safes, but they aren't gun safes. They are however very heavy steal and it fits 3 smaller safes in there.

                      1. OP: Go buy a firearm, and if the firearm's held by DOJ for investigation (since it's your first), don't worry - it might take an extra few days.

                      2. Everyone who jumped on the OP: If buying a gun for self-defense and defense of your family isn't "good cause" while you have debt, I don't expect you'll be applying for your CCWs while you pay off your mortgage, autos, credit cards, and student loans - will you? Lovely to see gunnies judge others' priorities - might I interest you in the field of law enforcement; specifically, the positions of Chief of Police or Sheriff?
