if you're in arrears with child support you really have no business buying a gun. Take care of your kid(s) first. -
Sorry but +1A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Without being judgemental, no, it shouldn't. Past suspended licenses don't count as long as your license is OK now. However, the other guys are MORALLY right.Comment

Let's see here... I've had full custody of my son since he was 3 years old (he's 8 now) and he hasn't seen his mom since. So there you go... I take care of my kids. Just because I pay in arrears doesn't mean I don't take care of my kids. God, I hate people that just assume sh*t without even knowing full details. I guess if you owe money in "arrears" then no one should buy anything since that means they don't take care of their kids. Give me a break! I pay rent, take care of my kids, put food on the table, make car payments, just like most of you guys do.Last edited by FLAWLS1; 01-20-2011, 1:29 PM.Comment

You admitted you still aren't caught up on your child support payments (definition of arrears), have had your license suspended 3 times for failing to pay child support, and are contemplating what is typically a fairly expensive purchase in the mean time. The ridicule seems reasonable to me, sorry. Taking care of your kids IMO would be putting all non-essential purchases off until your past required child support payments are made, anything less is taking a personal indulgence at the expense of your kids.Last edited by stix213; 01-20-2011, 1:51 PM.Comment

So by not being caught up in the payments means that I'm not taking care of my kids and that I can't buy things that I want even though I'm making my payments? Please, I seem to notice on forums that there's always those people who want to preach thinking they know the whole situation and always want to judge someone. I ask a simple damn background question & I get some know it all(s) who think I have no business buying a firearm. Why can't people just answer questions without judging the person. I didn't sign up here for people to think they know my situation and assume I don't take care of my priorities. Just because I have arrears doesn't mean I won't have fun & spend MY extra $ on things that I want. You only live once...You admitted you still aren't caught up on your child support payments (definition of arrears), have had your license suspended 3 days for failing to pay child support, and are contemplating what is typically a fairly expensive purchase in the mean time. LOL... OK! You're entitled to your opinion. IMO if I'm doing what I got to do then why not spend some free $ on something I want. Like I said... you only live once so I'm going to make the most of it. I don't WANT to give my extra hard earned $ and pay arrears when I'm already paying what I have to. That's fine for you guys to "think" you know what's best, but either way I'll do what I want with my own extra $. All I asked was a simple question. I didn't need all the BSLast edited by FLAWLS1; 01-20-2011, 1:57 PM.Comment

You are right of course, we have no right judging you without knowing the entire story. Sorry.Comment

Good luck with finding your answer... sorry I don't have it.
I just know some dealers will give you the shaft if it doesn't clear.
For example one of my dealers will charge you a restocking fee (near 25%) if you can't purchase the gun or cancel your layaway.JohnComment

I won't judge you. I haven't walked a mile in your shoes...
The DOJ might hold up your purchase to question you about the CDL suspensions. Once you get the letter (assuming you might) you call the DOJ and they will ask about the circumstances of yoru background issue(s) that held it up. If they are satisfied, they'll finish the background and release the gun. Sometimes they may need your version of events in writing.
I know someone who owed a crud load of money to the State Franchise Board and it held his DOJ approval up, he called, explained it was being handled by attorneys, and they released his gun."Over-sentimentality, over-softness, in fact washiness and mushiness are the great dangers of this age and of this people. As long as you are paying your child support you can still go enjoy life. So unless you took the money that you would of paid the child support and blew it on hookers and coke in vegas things do happen.
If you are simply NOT paying child support and are just a dirt bag father then I would say make sure your kid is taken care of first, but if you take care of him/them and have some extra cash to buy a gun by all means go buy one.
Im assuming you fell behind just because of financial problems not because you were irresponsible and blew the money on hookers and coke.
I don't think the back ground check looks at child support that way. i think it looks more at if you had felonies, or have a court case or have charges pressed against you. its basically IMO a check to make sure you are not getting a gun to simply blow someone away cause you have a grudge against them in some pending case, or that you are not prohibited from owning guns due to criminal record etcComment

They don't check
Child support or Alimony or your credit score. As long as you're not a Felon or have domestic violence issues you're good to go.
No one will call you, or ask you any questions.
I know plenty of good men who support their kids; despite getting hosed by a system that makes it hard to Modify Support amounts/visitation schedules and stopping a COMPUTER in Sacramento from pulling your Drivers License or
garnishing wages at the drop of a hat.
I also know of one guy who's EX died 12 years ago and the State kept putting bank levies on his checking accounts over the years.! Even after he
produced a DEATH CERTIFICATE and school records that proved his daughter had lived with him full time since the mothers death.
But sadly I know some dead-beat dad's who don't support any of their kids. To those people.....no sympathy from me. Kids are first. And it takes a man to be a Dad.
I suspect you're a good father. Welcome to Cal Guns.!
