You have been a member for well over a year and you still don't ave a clue.....FOR DROS!!!! they can charge whatever they want ontop of that to facilitate the transfer, but the breakdown of charges can only show $35 for DROS. As long as it's at least 2 different charges, they can charge you any amount they want.
example: DROS-$35, Storage/Handling - $25, Total - $60 ........ LEGAL!!
remember that DROS is just the cost of running the background check plus a little extra that the DOJ lets the FFL charge. As long as they aren't charging more for the actual DROS, they aren't breaking any laws. I know a place that charges $100 if you order something online and have it shipped to them
Soooo get a clue and know what you are talking about before you spout off wrong, basic information... thanks

Yes some ffls will charge you for a lock on HANDGUNS simply because they have a different inturpritation of the law... butttt the op is talking about a rifle so that point is mootMy understanding is if it's for a handgun the Fed law allows for the affidavit in lieu of a lock, but CA law does not accept that (for handguns) and says you have to have a CA approved firearm safety device and a receipt (date within 30 days?). Some FFL's will get pissy about what kind of receipt you have (they want it to be from a store vs. buying for an individual party), so it makes sense to see if your FFL is a doosh about the receipt or not.
INAL so the above is my understanding only.
lol

You've got it backwards. Cal accepts the affidavit and the federal law requires a lock (no 30 day receipt though). My understanding is if it's for a handgun the Fed law allows for the affidavit in lieu of a lock, but CA law does not accept that (for handguns) and says you have to have a CA approved firearm safety device and a receipt (date within 30 days?). at least they didn't charge you with the $25 safe handgun demonstration fee like Sportsmen's Supply in Campbell.... I try and take every opportunity to mention that they rip people off when threads like this come up so no one gets stuck dealing with them.Comment
