Yes yes yes^^^^^ i'm so sick of 1rd/sec. I can never work on my rapid fire tactical reloading drills at these ranges thus having to drive hours out onto natl forest lands to work on these drills.

There should be some kind of qualification and then at the end a staff member or maybe an active member can do the final vouch to see if the person applying will be permitted for 2x taps. Imo, this way it lowers the chance of having yahoos and morons performing dangerous "brace yo self" stunts.

On the poll, I did 50/100yd lanes, and separate rifle and HG.

As to amenities, clean bathrooms, lots of room for gear, maybe even lockers, some accesories/guns for sale, but not overboard. Also, knowledgable staff who don't have attitude, but know how to run a safe range.

The rest, as others posted, pretty much standard stuff like good air scrubbers, lighting, etc.

I love a convenient indoor range that lets me shoot rifles and handguns.

What I want
-Good lighting
-Good ventilation
-Good heating/cooling
-A rear bench where I can sit or leave my stuff
-A good pulley system with an easy to get to switch
-Something to accurately gauge range
-Wide lanes
-Big shooting benches so I can easily rest my rifle or several handguns without having to go to the back
-Membership perks

What I don't want
-Hourly range fees
-Outrageously priced reloads
-Bad parking
-Parking in a scary part of town
-Rude staff
-Over bearing RSOs

What I don't care about
-Snacks
-Waiting area

Here are some specs what I am playing around with.
These are minimums at this point.

16 - 4' wide 50 yd handgun lanes
10 - 5' wide 100 yd any firearm lane, able to shoot bench or prone.
50' x 300' open range for experienced shooters, classes (classroom attached to open range), obstacles etc... Will be secluded from rest of the public range, with private entrance for classes or agency use.
Viewing area of all shooting areas except open range.
Shop with rentals,ammo and supplies. FFL down the road.
Snack bar with view of the handgun lanes.

Some of my numbers are putting this building at 62,000 sq ft! Any one have any leads on a vacant grocery store!

i know most of my overs at 100 yards, i know none of them at 75.

indoor range 50 yards(or more, not all lanes have to be that long) sectioned into ~5 lane rooms(to limit rifle shock form scaring newbies and to allow people to do draw drills without endangering too many others) that allows rifles(up to 45-70) that sells a good selection of ammo(a little overpriced for the convenience) accessories for sale(limited to popular brands) clean, furnished waiting-rest-class room, FFL on sight,

just a ? to the OP where were you thinking of putting this place

I am really shooting for a 100 yd line. Everyone uses 100 as a baseline. Some property I am looking at is just short of 100. I will be doing more research. As many have suggested I am looking to have a few different sections. Bullet proof lane barriers and part of the range wide open with no barriers for experienced shooter, upon proof. Holster drawing and rapid fire acceptable.

This range will be North of Orange County and South of Yuba County!

How about a set of lanes for rentals that is separated from the others?

Turners and Walmart can buy cheap by volume. A new shop FFL is not going to have that buying power. Customer service would go much farther than Turners or WM. Perhaps a discount for members.

Rifle ranges are far too rare right now. You have to drive so terribly far to get to any and indoors ones are usually way too short. So an indoor range with nice rifle lanes would really be a treasure to have nearby!

Good lighting and well-built spaces are nice too. (Some ranges I've been to seem to be "better built" than others, when it comes to how comfortable the place is, how much echo there is from the guns firing and so on. That's a minor thing, but pleasant lighting etc. also contributes to the overall experience.)

Having lots of lanes is great too, especially for people firing larger calibers. (Even if the place is separated between handguns and rifles, there's still the people stuck in-between, with larger handgun calibers.)
We're usually holding back and sometimes almost wary of firing our stuff too much because we don't want the noise/blast/whatever to ruin the fun of the people around. More lanes in the handgun area usually tend to help, since people coming in and not wanting to be bothered by that can take a lane farther away, and we don't have to feel guilty for all the noise etc. our guns make.

And lastly, proper aeration is great too. Something I've noticed is that sometimes ranges have some sort of air system going full-blast to circulate the air in the room, and you really get cold underneath it. I understand the necessity but when it's freezing cold close to the lanes it's a bit annoying. I've had times where I was shaking from cold because it had been hot outside and I wasn't dressed for cold. Although I don't know enough about it to know if it's possible to avoid that with a better aeration system or not.
