I personally don't like glocks. There is nothing really wrong with them. They're accurate, they're reliable and they're well made. They just don't feel right in my hand. I've always preferred a Walther P99, Sig P220 or 1911A1 style pistol. I also really liked the Styer M9. The S&W M&P is pretty decent, but I don't think I'd actually buy one.

Of course it's all personal preference.

Find a handgun that feels 'right' in your hands. Don't worry about brand names so much.

I own a P99 AS, P220 two tone and a Springfield TRP! We have very similar taste in handguns.

I realize that some don't like the Gun Room, but check out their range. They have quite a few rentals to try out. Trying out a gun before purchase is always a good thing.

I am pretty new to this whole gun thing having just bought my first pistol. I work with several police officers and other gun enthusiasts who advised me to get the gun that fits the best in your hand and when you shoot. Both The Gun Room and Rancho Cordova rent guns.

As one of the other CGN guys said:
"If you ask nicely, they (other CGN's) may allow you to try out their handgun at a range in your locale." i live in Sacto and bought a Beretta PX4 in 9mm. I will be at sac valley shooting ctr next weds or thurs and you can shoot my gun if you want. my buddy has a S&W compact 9mm and you can shoot his as well. if you want to go, just let me know and we can meet down there.

if you are set on the glock, I saw Golden State Tactical is selling for $499:

i have no affiliation and have only seen the site on CGN with good feedback, so buyer be warw

Yep, I've done a few rentals at Gun Room.. my experience with them has been positive.

Thanks for the offer. I'll let you know. I've been to golden state's website. I may purchase from them. I need to find out if there are any GSSF dealers I can order from as well.

Sweet. The P99 just feels natural in my hand.... I can't say how much I love it. Best semi-auto handgun in the world, in my opinion. The P220 just has that really solid heft that's reassuring, kinda like the 1911 but with a more moderness to it. My instinctive pointing with these three pistols is far more natural than with the Glock. I mean with a G19 or G21, I have no problem hitting steel plates at 100 yards... just if I have to 'snap' my pistol up into firing position with my eyes closed and then open them, I tend to have the glock nose-up and need to compensate my hold to get on target. I don't have that problem with the P99 or sig and not so much with the 1911 that I can remember. Plus, I'm just not a fan of the grip feel of the HK USP or Glock pistols.

Oddly, I do like the smaller Kahrs that are modeled off a downsized Glock. I think the grip of the full sized Glock or HK just has a little too much meat for me to hold the way I like. I dunno. Perhaps it's just psychological.

Did you go with the G19 or something else?

Went with the G19. I feel very confident in my purchase.

I didn't buy any accessories like cleaning kit or safe, but I have 10 days to look for that stuff.

Who did you end up DROS'ing the G19 with?

Just Guns. The staff were very knowledge, helpful and nice. They sold me a glock with non-fixed sights. I'm a bit new to it all, but from what I understand, it's an upgrade.. a free one at that!
