If there was one Glock that anyone would recommend, it would be the 19. No one will argue that the 19 is the best out of all the Glocks when it comes to balance, size, and feel.

With that said, get out to the range and get accustomed to your Glock. Once you're comfortable go ahead and rent a few other handguns and see what else you like. There's a lot of great guns out there.

glock 19 or berretta 92fs/m9. they both hold their value quite well and they have proven themselves. eventhough i opt. to get the xd as my first gun, its a great gun but the glock and beretta is just the better gun. and as 9mm for home defense, definitely have to have jhp 147grain rounds. 124grain is fine too

My first gun was a g19. I'll never sell it.

Hard to find a G19 used. People tend to keep them. If they are used, the prices are close to new.
Buying used ALWAYS has some risk, even if it looks good. Save yourself the headache and find a new one for a good price. If you buy out of state, you will spend $ on shipping and the incoming dealer will expect some $ for his trouble.
If possible, support our Gun Shops in CA. They have a hard enough time keeping the lights on.
            Good luck.

+1 on this. Take a safety course, even if you don't think you need it. You'll learn something new, including the wonders of the laws in CA.

I was considering the g19 after shooting my Taurus 357 for so long plus the ammo is expensive even with the .38 special round. After shooting the g19 and other weapons I realized that I did not like the balance of the glock and considered an XD. However, I found a good price on a Sig 229 9mm on Buds guns and the total came out to $700 (shipping +FFL) which was a great bargain. You can also look for sales online not just stores in CA.

If you want to buy a Glock join GSSF first and you can save a pretty good chunk of $$$. 9mm is great for target shooting, for home defense I like .45, and most police departments are carrying .40. 9mm is the cheapest and will do the job. I like the suggestions to try some other guns before buying. My first pistol was a Glock. My next will be a CZ-75 or perhaps a Beretta Storm PX-4.

I have a glock 19. I LOVE it! it goes down to the range at least once a week...very reliable, easy to clean and care for...nice n accurate. I didn't think i would love glock as much as i do.

                            Thanks everyone for the comments.

The more time I spend on the forum, the more I can just feel this becoming a hobby/addiction :P I have some expensive hobbies already... ironically, this seems to be the cheapest.

Just don't mention your drug addiction on your DROS and you'll be ok.

Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully they won't notice the camera equipment, watch collection and cars in the background.
