A jaywalker accidentally shot himself in the leg after pulling a gun on a driver in Hawthorne during a dispute over who had the right of way, police said Monday.
The jaywalker, identified as 21-year-old Dennis Vilchis of Los Angeles, allegedly pulled the gun during the argument about 11:30 a.m. Saturday near Prairie Avenue and El Segundo Boulevard, Hawthorne police Lt. Gary Tomatani said.
Vilchis did not shoot the driver, but made sure he saw the weapon before trying to put it away.
"It is believed that when the pedestrian attempted to conceal the gun on his person again, either placing it in his pants pocket or in his waistband, he accidentally fired the gun, shooting himself in the leg," Tomatani said.
