    Police/Media gun safety FAIL!

Credit to "Bob's Gun Counter" blog for this little gem..

    How to kill your cameraman

I came across a familiar story this morning. A sheriff’s office was arming it’s officers with AR-15 carbines, and the local news media was covering the story. The real story isn’t that the deputies were qualifying with their new weapons.

The story is that they allow the beautiful young lady reporter to take a loaded weapon and point it over her cameraman’s shoulder.

Here’s a screen capture pulled from the video...

    (can't embed - go here: http://www.valleycentral.com/news/vi...5030&id=555974)

On a police range, surrounded by deputies and instructors, nobody had the common sense to move the cameraman out of the line of fire? The only saving grace here is that you hear the safety snick off as the cameraman moves to the side, just before the reporter shoots. This video demonstrates a huge error in judgment by the Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio and his deputies. Obviously, they need to take their training back to basics.

"It can fire up to 90 rounds"

    Huh? And then what?

Weapons did not cost the department no money. The money used to buy the weapons were from drug bust. NICE! They should be issued full auto weapons and hand grenades . The Cartel have them as well.

Not only is he using a gun muzzle for an earplug, looks like he's got his finger on the trigger as well.

            Flinch reflex, anyone?

love how when cops have then they're "high powered rifles" as opposed to "assault rifles"

In that shot the camera man isnt RIGHT in front of the weapon. On news cameras u can zoom out and get a wide angel shot. So lets say im the camera man and im standing on the side of the reporter with the camera. It will look like to the viewers that im right in front of her when im not. Its called TV magic. Im NOT saying it was a smart thing to do.

Either way, that camera person was easily within her firing arc!

And that weapon was loaded and chambered with her finger ON the trigger!

                    FAIL on so many levels.

Actually, if you figure the camera is on the guy's right shoulder, there's quite a bit of man sticking out to the left of the lens. That means the muzzle is pointed into his chest or left shoulder or just off to the side, though I think off to the side is pretty optimistic.

1: she's not pointing the gun AT the cameraman, and she appears to be acting in a careful manner.

2: as long as everybody involved is clear on what is going to happen, I don't see any issue. It's not like the cameraman is an unwilling victim being muzzled at a range.

I think of it like skydiving. It's dangerous, but as long as the dangerous action is properly done by people who know how, it's safer.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

Oh snap the AR can fire 90 rounds with 30 round magazines?! WHAT OF THE LAWS OF PHYSICS?!

Why are news agencies so bad at reporting subjects that involve firearms. I don't think I've read a single article or seen a single news segment about firearms that didn't have something incorrect in it. Pathetic media.
