    How gun friendly is Texas?

My wife and I have been kicking around idea of moving to Texas (Houston area). I've got a friend who lives there says the sheriff will not give consent to any class 3 permits. Do I need his permission or would it possible to just apply with ATF? If Harris county has a no fun policy how about neighboring counties?

Just do a NFA trust. Then, there is no need for CLEO sign off.

I don't know about class 3 but for type 1 you need to notify the "head LE" of your area (there's a carbon copy for you to send to him) which I just send to the constable (who gets elected unlike sheriff). No problems.

TX is pretty gun friendly except Houston and DFW areas. In Houston, check out PSC shooting club, great people and nice facilities.

Houston isn't TOO anti-gun. My cousin lives there. He is a Doctor at the medical center there. He has a CCW. Also an AK74 and an M4. He keeps telling me to move out there.

I moved to Houston recently and one day one I went to a class 3 range for rapid fire XDM shooting and rented a FN P90 for full auto. Compared to PRK it is a different world. I have a friend that is a native Texan, setup a NFA trust without too much trouble.

There's also more to life than NFA... Texas has shall issue CHL, no registration, no roster, no waiting period, no monthly purchase limit, no AW ban, no mag capacity limits. True person to person sales (no FFL required). We don't have open carry yet but we're working on that. It's not the most gun-friendly state in the union but it's up there.

My good shooting buddy moved to southwest Texas a few years back and he reports that Texas is gun heaven---he buys guns off of people at yard sales! I visited him earlier this year and while there he introduced me to the local DPS officer (police) and told him I had an unloaded pistol in a locked case (Kalifornia style) in the trunk of my car---the DPS guy told me "Load that puppy up and have it in the front of the car with you!" In Texas, while traveling, it is fully legal to have a loaded firearm in the front of the car with you! Neat---in Texas they understand it is not the gun, but the person who has the gun and most of the people I talked with are very gun friendly.

Like the other guys stated, Texas is gun friendly country. NFA trusts are your friend and the CHL process is easy.

                  Welcome to Texas!

If I die, I may not go to heaven, Texas is as close as I've been.
Good luck in Texas, I hope you prosper and enjoy your life there.
One thing though, turn the speed down on your hearing, they speak slower than here in California, lol.

I think open carry is allowed w/ long guns.
