Right hand and left eye dominant?

Throughout the years I've been shooting with my my right hand and aiming with my right eye. But I recently found out that I'm left eye dominant. Went to the range a few days ago to see if I shoot better with my left eye. by pressing my chin to my right arm, I can achieve good sight alignment with the left. I can see the sights and target better but after reloading or resighting, I'm back to using my right eye. I'm not bad with the right as I can shoot a human silhouette at 25yrds.

I use my right eye for scope shooting since it doesn't matter what eye dominant you are.

So what should I do? Retrain myself and start using my left eye or just stay with the right and why?

I switch it up depending on what I am shooting (I am left hand / right eye dominant).

If I am shooting a handgun I tape up my left eye and if I am shooting my rifle I tape the right up. So both eyes are open. I've been using clear tape too. I'm not where I want to be yet but it helps me train to focus better.

If you are shooting two handed, place pistol in front of your left eye.

          Lefty- right eye dominant-

Was shooting lefty(rifles/plinking) for years before I figured it out-

Now I shoot both- Its pretty easy to re-train for pistol shooting-

I still shoot lefty for bolt action hunting rifles-with anything else, I shoot equally well left or right-I carry right handed- easier to buy holsters!

I'm left eye dominant but always shoot right. Never could notice a difference.

I am also right hand - left eye dominant
i shoot with both eyes open, hold the rifle as though a lefty but operate the bolt with my right hand. my custom rifles that are not ambidextrous stocked are stocked left hand but with aright hand action embedded

I had a troop who had the same issue, and the only thing that worked for her was to hold the gun as if shooting with her right eye and then canting the gun 45 deg, so she could use her left eye.

looked kinda goofy but she knocked down the targets so I didn't complain.

I'll just start retraining myself to get use to using my left eye since I can see my sights and target better. But using my right eye for a little over a decade, it's hard not to use my right.. I guess it's a good thing to train with my left because I can use either or if need be.

Bro, just put a piece of scotchtape on the left lens, just enough to block the line of sight to the target. This way you can train the right eye to look harder at the target. I do believe shooting right/right or left/left is better for overall peripheral vision. I do this to beginning skeet shooters to help them adjust. Just a thought!

I think your idea of working on shooting left hand/left eye and still using right hand/right eye at times makes the most sense, especially for handgun shooting. As a left eye dominant shooter I have been shooting left handed going back to BB guun days, even though I am right handed. However, I do not finish a range session without at least doing some right hand/right eye shooting. After all in a self-defense situation you might need to switch hands. Once you try left hand/eye you might find it comes pretty easily, and to help with it you might also try other hand eye coordination tasks with your left hand, for example, I shoot darts either handed.

I'm left handed but my right eye is dominant. I shoot right handed because that's what felt natural. I do some other things right handed, too. When I was a kid I never stopped to think about it; I just did what ever felt right.

I'm the same, right hand but left eye dominant.

I just shoot left handed. IMO eye dominance/sight picture is more important than ergos. It's actually pretty funny. I've trained myself to where shouldering a rifle on my left shoulder is incredibly natural, where the right shoulder feels awkward. Before when I would mock-shoulder a rifle (IE air shoot, lol) I would default to right.

I plan on doing the same with handguns, using my left hand/left eye. Simpler that way.

i'm the same, right handed left eye dominant.

also found out recently, only started shooting a few months before i found out, so retraining for me isn't bad.

The clear tape on glasses thing is a great idea, helps out a lot.

I say just train both ways, i'm trying to do the same with my rifle and when i pick up a handgun, i'll do the same.

Just more skills added to my tool-bag. no harm in that

I am right handed left eye dominant and the only time it really bugs me is when I shoot shotgun. If I shoot right handed I have to close my left eye but if I shoot left handed I can leave both eyes open.
