    PPT dealer fee is $10

How hard is it for FFLs to read PC 12082? $10 is the maximum dealer fee on face to face transfers between private parties. Yet, FFLs keep violating this.

    This even makes it simpler.

    You want names?

Goleta Valley Gun in Goleta charges $47 per FTF transfer. I have receipts. I was in need so went ahead with the transfer, but decided not to do anything about it, because a crappy FFL is also a FFL.

Island View Enterprises in Ventura quoted me $35 on top of a $25 DROS fee (yes, I verified, for FTF transfers, asked him twice).

I hate that. I think a lot of them do it either because they misread the law or because they know that their location means people will just say the "hell with it" and ante up the extra 10, 20$ bucks.

I would pay 10, even 20 bucks to support them if they say "Hey buddy, look, we don't make a lot of money. The state fee is too low for us to stay in business." I take issue when they feel entitled to charge whatever. It is the law, dammit!

It doesn't cost them a dime's worth of electricity to do a PPT and my local FFLs can do one in 10 minutes or less. FFLs are making $10 on every PPT plus the opportunity to impress two customers. It's not like they call extra employees in for overtime to do it, the employees are usually standing around anyway.

I hope Island View reads this and refutes your claims. Otherwise, they won't get any of my bussiness and I'm going to stop refering people to them until I know that they are not breaking the law. I definately don't want to refer anyone to a shop where criminal activity is taking place and, I don't buy firearms from criminals. If someone is charging $25+$35 for a PPT, they are breaking the law thus, they are a criminal.

If they insist on doing this, bring a printed copy of PC 12082 with you and show it to them...highlight the part about it being a misdemeanor to charge anything in excess of $35...then tell them you want a refund for the excess they charged you, if they refuse, tell them you will forward your receipts with a complaint to DOJ.

What were the line items on your receipt with the corresponding $s?

Could you take a dealer that over charges for a PPT to small claims court? Would be a real pita for them, and hopefully make your point.

happens all the time. You will get some people in the thread that will say "well, at least there are dealers in CA, just pay it, blah blah blah". Then, you will get the ones that agree that its complete BS and the FFL should be shut down if they continue doing it.

Gretas in Simi Valley overcharged me and I sent an email to the DOJ explaining what happened. About a month later I got a cal from DOJ letting me know that they contacted Gretas and told them to cut out the overcharging. The guy from the DOJ also gave me his personal business # and told me to call him if I ever decide to do another PPT there and they overcharge me again.

I was just in Island View on Friday, and he had fresh Calguns pamphlets on his counter, hopefully they see this and weigh in/revise their policy.

I can say this, Bobby was sitting in the dark; I didn't want to ask why, because I was the answer would be he could afford to turn the lights on...

We need to support the gun stores, and they need to provide good service. Even if I can get an item for a couple bucks less online from Midway or Brownell's, I'll almost always buy it locally from a dealer if I can. And I never leave a dealer without purchasing something. Even if it's only a $10 cleaning rod or something small. But if a dealer treated me badly, I'd make sure to politely tell them why I'm not coming back.

I see your problem. Why would you go into a holster store to transfer a gun anyway? Why don't you use one of the other shops or transfer dealers in town? Fort Courage is my first choice. Bullseye only deals in long guns. I know of at least one 01 that mainly deals on the internet and at least one other 01 transfer dealer in Simi. Why not support a shop that doesn't tell you that you're going to jail for your OLL? Yea, Greata's lost so much money that they are now carrying a few OLLs but, I'm sure they are still spreading a ton of FUD about them.

I agree to a point. You need to support the stores that dont play stupid games.

I tried to do the PPT first at Fort Courage but when I showed up Tim's wife told us he was off at a match and was not working that day (Saturday). She let us know that Tim was the only one who could do the PPT and I needed the transfer to be done that day. I had a very busy work schedule around then and that was the only time I had available. Didn't know about the other place at the time and was relying on being able to do a PPT at FCA.
