Man - there are a lot of bad gun shops. I think I have been to a few you guys speak of. Turners in Signal Hill is pretty bad, some old guy behind the counter was trying to sell me an XD in .40 because he insisted if I had to use it in a car (his scenario not mine) I could shoot it and it would go though a car door and kill someone - something he insisted a 9mm would not do.

Then he tried to convince me to buy a used pump action shot gun, with a pistol grip, no stock, a front pistol grip with an 18" barrel. For $450.

This is before my first handgun, he kinda turned me off until I talked to some buddies who assured me he is just nutty and not all gun owners are like that.

We should have a list of bad gun shops to go to, and reasons why. I am going to put that in the suggestion place.

I went to Gunworld yesterday, I left dissapointed again.
But I did offer them to be their new supplier of gun locks

Ah, I have had my share of bad experiences, but I won't post the names of the establishments.

I've been ignored, treated with contempt when I dared to ask them to see a firearm (they assumed I wouldn't buy anything), forced to buy a lock for a rifle even though I have a safe, and practically threatened to be shot!

A few years back (before I worked for EAI), a buddy of mine had visited a local gunshop that had a going out of business sale sign posted. He went in and saw a couple of guns he was interested in. The next day, I had a day off, and my buddy asked me if I could go down and check out the shop and get some prices for him on the guns he was interested in. I said sure, and took his list down there.

When I got to the shop, the owner buzzed me in the door. After a quick look around, I pulled out the list and started hunting down the guns my buddy was interested in. The owner saw me, and asked what was on the list. Thinking he was going to help me out, I showed him my list and told him that my buddy had ben the previous day, and wanted to find out some prices on his guns.

The guy then snatched the paper out of my hand, ripped it up, and then threw the pieces in my face! While I stood there in stunned disbelief, he started yelling me and told me to get the hell out of his shop.

I tried to ask him why, and what the problem was, but he just kept yelling at me and telling me to leave. I went to the door, but then the shock wore off and I started to get mad, and asked him what the f#*$ his problem was.

The gun then told me "you better leave right now or I'm gonna...." and then he put his hand on his gun, which was in a holster on his hip.

I decided the best choice of action at that point was retreat

To this day I have no idea why the guy freaked out on me, but I'm just glad he didn't shoot me.

I was using the indoor range at a certain store/range in Modesto (not ripon!) when I noticed the "gentlemen" next to me handling their rented hand guns in a very unsafe manner, loaded guns behind the stalls, point them at the stall walls while loading. I spoke to the people behind the counter, they just offered me a refund on my hour of range time, stating something like "Easier to please you then deal with them". I haven't been back in 2 years.

Truth! Old Tabor turned into a POS when iggy raped him with a big fine. He won't sell me a rifle, "because I'm not twenty one". Nor will he sell me ammo for my sks as "it can be used in a pistol" I asked him what model and he had no answer just, "they exist"(yeah ak SBR/"pistol"). The russian guys at city arms carry OLL and will take care of you. A+ treatment in pacifica

You also need an HSC to handle pistols in tabors. However I haven't tried.

I've only shot twice at Ironsights in Oceanside and found them to be polite and helpful. No problems at all.

When I lived in Riverside, I used to go to the Turner's all of the time (it's now in Corona). Within a minute of approaching the counter, I've been asked if I needed help. When I've asked questions, the employees have been helpful and to me, knowledgeable. I have purchased a few guns there and only had two problems.

I went to the gun fair they sponsor at Rashauge's (I know it's misspelled, but oh well) and bought a Browning Buckmark, tho I wanted the Ruger MK III initially. $$$

When I went to pick it up after the wait period, it turns out it wasn't at the shop yet. It had something to do with the serial #s of all the guns bought at the show and the ATF. I was given a box of 500 rounds of 22 when I returned to get it and the mgr apologized.

I had some major problems with the gun and tho they could have turned it in to have it fixed, the mgr. asked me what I wanted. I told him the Ruger MK III (paid the difference of course). He said fine as he wouldn't let me leave the store unhappy. He didn't have to do that I realize, but he did.

The other problem was when I picked the Ruger up. No one knew how to disassemble/assemble it. The mgr. did, but he was off. I realize it can be a difficult gun to work on and since I don't live close to it anymore, I took it to a gun store near me and the smith showed me.

I have no complaint with Turner's. I know that Maddog here, works there and he has been helpful also.

wow i can't believe no one mention LA Gun Club. this just happened to me last weekend. i take a friend to a LA Gun Club which i never been before. it was my friend's first time shooting. i brought 3 of my guns and lots ammo. the range clerk see me walk in with pack and bags of stuff, asked me to show him all the gun and all the ammo. they check EVERY single box of ammo that i brought. even the 22lr which i got from wal mart. that box was in seal. when i ask them what's the reason, just which kind of ammo not allow here. he respond " we don't allow hollow point here." i don't know why, fmj will penetrate and do more damage in their range, but fine, it's their place, their roles. but then he told me that they will charge me 30% more per hour because i brought in my own ammo. WTF? so if they can rip me off on the ammo they will rip me off on time charge? need less to say, i'll never go back to that range again.

also their staffs were bunch gang banger wanna be. one of them actually ask my buddy what he do for living. my friend told him he's a lawyer. got a reply " man, you have a easy job huh? not like me, hav to work my butt off. you don't even need to carry 70lb boxes in and out of store..." we were speechless.

Many indoor ranges have that rule. Hollow points can fragment if you hit the target holder and hit you and other shooters. I have seen it happen a few times. Never seem anyone get seriously hurt. But its best for them to play safe then sorry.
