    Red Cross = Anti-Gun?

While waiting in line at Bed, Bath & Beyond I spied a red covered book Titled "Preparedness Now", by Anton Edwards. Not sure what his claim to fame is, but I noted the book was recommended by the Red Cross, NYPD, and other agencies.

Flipping thru I found the self defense section. I was amazed they had a paragraph recommending for emergencies you purchase and carry a Kubotan, and another paragraph regarding carrying a flexible baton. No mention or thought as to any required training for the effective use of these, or if these might even be legal in a particular state, such as ours.

Next was an entire page and 1/2 regarding NOT purchasing, carrying, or using a gun. Reasons given for this miracle of thought include, the need for detailed and much professional training, the insane fact that the gun will be used against you, that you are too slow to draw when needed, and that you will harm others. The conclusion was to do yourself and society a favor and not buy a gun.

I did not check the date to verify if this was written post Heller, but I still find his reasoning offensive at best. Since the Red Cross has their name on this book, I assume they approve of Mr. Edwards opinion. Rant Over!

    About the Author
Aton Edwards is Executive Director of the NYC-based International Preparedness Network. He has trained thousands of New Yorkers and international civilians to help mitigate and respond to disasters and emergencies.
I think that says pretty much all that needs to be said.

Not Surprising. The ARC is not a Charity.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

It's the same in Gavin de Becker's book if you ever read it. Good book, good techniques, horrible gun-related views.

Its kind of fitting. If someone needs the red cross to tell you how to survive and prepare themself, they probably shouldnt be owning a firearm then

I had a similar reaction when I found out the ACLU was decidedly anti-gun... the idea that any organization would mobilize to defend 9 of the first 10 amendments and work against the 10th was... laughable.

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

Agree - one should have a very stout cane - it is legal and a good tool in close quarters.

A heavy hiking sock holding 8 quarters is a formidable home spun sap-

I'll tell you one thing, I won't be listening to THAT book

Anything with LAPD, NYPD, SFPD, attached to it, is automatically counter endorsed by me.

                      Let's bring um down!

What we can do is go onto Amazon and all write reviews about this book - things like "sketchy advice" and such. This might send at least a small message to those who do browse Amazon.

They can have their sticks, I'll have my gun. Let's see who ends up surviving.

                              M1A Rifleman,

The Red Cross won't ever advocate carrying a gun for personal protection cuz they believe the police are responsible for that duty. We all know different but they don't think anythingmajor would happen.
