    Range Gear

Up until a couple days ago I hadn't been shooting in quite some time. While I was at the range I seen multiple folks with what looked like a workbench full of tools, spotting scopes, shells, gun rests, sandbags, log books, etc. Then I watched this guy who looked like he could stock a small shop blow his magazine apart and he didn't have the tools to fix it. Question is what are your range neccessities(sp)?

    Range stuff

Quite a bit actually. I use a large tackle box, which works well as it has lots of little segmented areas where I can store items. Most of the stuff I need tends to be rather small, so this works really well.

This approach also keeps everything organized, so over time, I barely need to look for something and instead can just reach over and there it is.

Came in handy on a recent .308 AR build where I was having some troubles at the range. It was easy to disassemble the lower, install the spring I had forgotten , then put it back together and continue shooting.

Besides the obvious stuff, which I won't list, I also keep extra hearing and eye protection for when I bring friends. Invariably, we run short, particularly if we bring our kids. A staple gun and masking tape comes in handy too for putting up and marking targets.

I don't keep any ammo or magazines in mine. These live in seperate, soft bags as they take up a lot of room.

I've been working on a tackle box, but I normally have a bunch of stuff in a backpack including cleaning supplies and replacement parts, and a full first-aid kit. Ya never know...

Kevlar vest with rifle plates, gloves and goggles. All the other stuff is unnecessary.

            Ammo.

It depends on what I'm shooting. For highpower match rifle, I need a wagon to haul all my stuff. I hate taking all this gear. I like to keep my load as light as possible. On the other hand if I'm shooting pistol, I have a laptop bag that has everything I need. It's light and easy to carry.
Before I leave for the range, I strip out all the unnecessary junk and pack as light as I can. I don't even take tools except for sight adjustment tools. If I need something at the range, 99 times out of 100, someone at the range can help you out. People are nice and always willing to help and there's always one guy with an entire gunsmith repair shop on his shooting table so you can aways count on the other guy.
I shoot a lot more often nowadays and I seldom have any problems at the range, I'll even take a brand new never fired gun to the range and assume everything will work. Worse case is I have to go home early if it doesn't work. So far no problems.

              Thanx, Russ

I have a range bag that usually has ammo/magazines, a Leatherman multi-tool, and an organizer box with small parts, tools, extra pieces, etc. in it. If I'm sighting something in, I'll take my spotting scope; it's fairly lightweight anyways.

Other than that, most of my firearms carry their respective necessities in their bags/cases, so there's no need for extra BS.

                              in the range bag:
                              • eye protection
                              • ear protection
                              • hex drivers
                              • some Shoot-N-See target centers
                              • bag for spent cases
                              • shooting gloves

Plus I throw in whatever ammo I'm using that day. If I'm doing some serious rifle shooting, I might take a rest, but usually I use the sandbags at the range. If I'm doing a crimp creep test, I'll take calipers.

I try to keep it simple and pack light.
