    357 Taurus question

So my wife doesn't like her 605 Taurus snub nose. She says it kicks too hard. So How can I make it kick less. it has hogue grips with the longer bottom for a better grip and Im using 38 ammo.
Is there a 38 ammo that has less recoil than the hollow point type ammo besides custom reloading which I dont have the time or inclination to do.
Is there a way to make the front sight be more visible in low light conditions?
Looking for a laser grip for her gun if I can find one cheap enough.
She does not liek the gun at all and i rather try some different ammo and maybe a laser sight before I go and spend more money on another gun.
I tried selling the gun but the buyer backed out with some BS reason. so Im trying to keep from just wasting money if I can. She liked the Ruger 22 she shot at her training class but the few I looked at were overpriced or already sold.
    Thanx for any info

    Shop around on the Interwebs.

Look for .38 spl 158gr round nose lead ammo. It's not loaded very hot and will be easy to shoot with low recoil. It's usually pretty cheap too.

Any 'target' ammo you find will probably be low velocity and low recoil too.
It cannot be inherited, nor can it ever be purchased.

nail polish or model paint work great on the front sight.. do a coat of white first then bright orange/red/green..

have her work on her grip.. dry firing will help... if you can have someone else work with her on her grip.. your best bet would be a woman.. think of it this way.. shes your wife.. you know she doesnt listen to you..
as for a laser grip.. i dont think they make cheap$ ones.. crappy ones yes but even those cost money..
if it comes to a new gun.. theres nothing wrong with 9mm.. when it comes to 22s the money you will save in ammo will pay for the gun in no time..

just for kicks PM me with a price to get rid of that POS..

You can load it with .38 spl wadcutter or round nose. In regards to the front sight, you can paint it as others have stated or if the front sight is not fixed but pinned or dovetailed then you can have it replaced with a orange or white dot sight. Don't waste your money on laser sight. I've seen at least a couple of people with one and with their hands shaking makes for a rather 'jumpy" laser dot on the target.

No, not every gun benefits from being ported. Some folks like to be able to see after shooting a single round in lowlight conditions and not be blinded by flames shooting out of the porting.

OP - snubnoses are just not fun to shoot. Practice with the gun sure if it's for self defense, but for 'fun shooting' buy her something else.

I know you said you don't want to load your own, but the 38 spl does great with a reduced load topped with a wadcutter.

I bought it strictly for HD for her for when Im not home. While it wont be a gun that she shoots she still needs to practice with it every so often.
Thanx for all the advice guys.

38 SPECIAL FEDERAL 130 GRAIN (BALL)
                FULL METAL JACKET

This is what you want to practice with. Ammoman has it for $13.95 a box (when you buy a case of 1000). Now I know you don't need a 1000 rds., but keep your eyes open & hopefully you can find it locally near that price.

My wife using it for practice and keeps 135gr. GDHP's in the snub for HD. The kick of the 130 gr FMJ is less than the GDHP's & she's not afraid to shoot / practice.

                Good luck.

Use wadcutters or semi-wadcutters. They are usually loaded pretty light.

Have her wear a fingerless biking glove or weightlifting glove. They have padding on the palm that will help with the snap of recoil.

There are some grips like the "Ribber" grips that Taurus puts on their Tracker series handguns. I don't know if they're made for the 605, but they work great at reducing felt recoil. Maybe you can find something like that for the 605.

I always recommend a 4" barrel for newbies. Not only can they aim with them better, but the extra weight and length seem to help reduce felt recoil. It may be psychological, but it helps for some reason.

If all else fails, you might consider a .380 auto like the Sig P232. Women seem to love that weapon.

If you really have to hit the bottom, try the Walther P22 with hot loads.

I would steer clear of porting. While it can reduce recoil and muzzle flip, it increases noise and muzzle blast. It might make her even more uncomfortable.

She either needs a bigger gun or she needs to get over her fear of the thing. If she doesn't like shooting it, I doubt even the lightest loads will make a difference. The biggest issue here is that if she's scared of the gun she won't make a good shot...if she even picks it up at all.
My wife would grab the 6" GP-101 in an emergency. The weight makes for very little recoil so she has no fear of it. Maybe it's larger and heavier than what might be thought of as an ideal pistol for a small woman but she's confidant with it and that's critical.

Try 148g lwc target loads...they will work better than round nose for home defense.
Federal and others also have "gentle" 110 grain hollowpoint loads.

Well Im gonna try some light light loads. She is not afraid of the gun cause she told me so. i got her over the fear of guns a while back. She just does not like the kick. I had a S&W 4 inch SS and she thought it was way too heavy. She doesnt mind my 9mm but she says its too heavy. She liked the Ruger 22 that she used at her gun training class so I should of bought that to begin with. Ah well ill keep looking for a reasonably priced Ruger 22 cal pistol
Im probably gonna have to trade it in on a 380 or a 22 Ruger or sell it outright and then go get her a 380 or a 22. Im not sure how good a 22 will be for HD so i will probably borrow a 380 and have her shoot that. I think walther makes a 380 and that looks like a fairly small light gun

I have a Taurus 605 and I doubt that porting the gun would increase the amount of flame this thing blows out when using even the lightest defensive loads.

With full house magnum loads it is nothing short of a flame throwing dragon (especially with Hyda-shocks)!

I'd avoid anything in .380. Most guns chambered in that round are very small and very light. It's going to be worse than the 605 with .38s. If you've never shot a PPK/S, I can tell you, it's not that pleasant. I sold mine because both my wife and I hated shooting it. Maybe look into a Beretta 92FS. That is one of the lightest recoiling centerfire pistols I've ever had the pleasure of shooting.
