    Your first time shooting

How old were you when you shot a firearm for the first time and who taught you how to handle a firearm? I was 14 and my dad taught me. My son is gonna be 11 in Jan. I'm teaching him the basics in firearm safety trying to burn that into his fresh mind. Wife isn't too comfortable with it or ready for him to go shooting even though he really wants too. She is afraid of firearms and won't even touch one.

Same here. My dad's black powder club had competitions once a month, and for all the kids, we competed in the "BB Brigade" while our parents were over on the real range shooting the .58's. I remember shooting a BB "musket" that was taller than me at 5 yards popping water balloons that were stapled to cardboard. Those were the days . . .
      I fly everywhere backwards.

Don't remember how old I was, but probably 8-10. I shot some sort of revolver with my Uncle. I only remember it because I wasn't wearing any hearing protection and after the first shot all I heard was *Rrinnnnnnnggggggggggg* for the rest of the day.

I was 9. My dad and his good friend (our neighbor at the time) Bill went shooting up at Lytle Creek....when it was generally safe. My very first shot was out of the 22/410 O/U I have today. I took my son (8) shooting for the first time about a month ago. He has learned a new respect for firearms and yes, he had to read and hear all about gun safety from myself and my friends + an Uncle

I was 12 or 13, it was Independence Day at my aunt's house. My cousin had a TEC 9. I fired a few shots at the creek bank. He gave me a basic safety run down.

I was 11 yrs old when I participated in a basic rifle shooting/safety course at Camp Hammer in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Handled BB/Pellet guns from a much earlier age, and didn't shoot much after the class until I was old enough(and had money enough) to buy my own weapons. But that first time holding a 'real' rifle (hey, a .22 is a big deal to a kid), and I was hooked.

I was somewhere between 8-12years old at Boy Scout Camp. We used .22 bolt actions that I don't even know the model of now. There was a shotty range as well, but I don't recall what gauge they were. Prolly 20g since it was younger kids.

I was 11, with a friend and his dad. We shot two 1911's, a Government (for sure) and a Lightweight Commander (I think, definitely a shorter barrel Colt). I still remember everything from that day like it was last week, my friend's dad was an awesome teacher, and it showed: My friend is now a paramedic for an SRT tactical team, and one of the best shots in the unit.

I like reading these stories. I hope I can make some nice memories like that with my son when it comes to shooting. Thanks all.

I was 12. After my grandfather passed my dad took me and my younger brother to see my grand mother and she had all my grandpas guns out. I wanted to learn to shoot bad so I said so! My dad took us to walmart to get some .22 ammo and taught me how to shoot in my grandmas back yard. She lives in the middle of nowhere louisia

I was 4, shot a combat commander in 9mm, remember like it was ten minutes ago. Been fascinated by firearms ever since!!!!
