Remember that Remington Under Fire story?

Seems there is (as there usually is) another side to the story. I am amazed that CNBC might have forgotten some information in their report.

Just like the GM trucks 20 years ago.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

This is exactly why I love this forum. Having seen the CNBC special definitely brought up questions for me which is why I came here.

No doubt neither side is giving all the facts. Anyone actually have experience the issue?

I'm still favoring the attack against Remington. Notice they don't discredit the inventor's testimony against Remington. They seem to claim his statements were essentially forced because he was "cornered". I belief there is a fault at Remington. At a minimum, why not make the mentioned "design change" on future rifles. They could also make some of the nicer after market triggers a standard feature on new guns. :/

Not too long ago there was a CGN member who posted that his R700 went off when he went to switch the gun from safe to fire. Dunno if true or not, but makes you wonder.

I now know two people who have had Remington 700s go off without pulling the trigger. In both cases it was while cycling the action to chamber a round and fingers nowhere near the trigger. I wouldn't take one if it was offered for free.

In the recent thread on this subject, I posted that I was able to make two of five R700's drop the sear with the safety after I adjusted the triggers in a way that is known to be unsafe.

Personally, I think it's great that the trigger provides adjustable sear engagement. I think it's a huge shame that people are stuck on the fact that "adjustable" means "can be adjusted in an unsafe way".

It's a great trigger, and it used to be (pre "X trigger") that you could take an R700 straight out of the box, spend exactly zero dollars and 15 minutes, and obtain a clean and safe 2.5lb pull.

It's a crying shame that those are the "old days".
