Shooting Attacking or Threatening Dogs

That big can of Bear Pepper Spray is great stuff but I have two problems with it for use while out walking dogs. first, the can is about a foot tall. I've seen nylon holsters for them but I think your still going to attract attention from THE MAN is you go walking around most cities in CA with one. Second, it has a very difficult to use trigger on it. You kinda need two hands to use and aim properly. I think it would be especially difficult for an elderly person to use easily (from the OP).
I think someone could make a fortune by making a 3oz size can of that bear spray with a trigger system that you can easily press with one hand while you hold your dogs leash with the other. If it could spray that nasty stuff in a cone pattern and give you at least 10 feet of range and about 10 seconds of spray time you'd have a winner. Between all the dog walkers, joggers, and mail carriers theres got to be a milti-million dollar business there.NRA & CRPA member

See my post about having your local dry cleaner's seamstress sew an inside pocket into your favorite walking jacket. That big can of Bear Pepper Spray is great stuff but I have two problems with it for use while out walking dogs. first, the can is about a foot tall. Smaller sizes of the same formula are available, but keep in mind the "worse case scenario" of a pack attack where you might need more than you think.
At first, yes, the trigger has a safety that would seem complicated to put into immediate action. The solution, practice, practice, practice. Like dry firing. Practice from drawing from your pocket, disengaging the safety, finger on the trigger, and aiming at a target. You will find that it is not that difficult for fast one handed operation.
Under stress, you would be amazed at yourself how this practice kicks into high gear. You'll look back and say "wow!" at your cat-like reflexes.

After hearing what sounded like a major dog fight in my back yard, I looked out there to see my neighbors two dogs (rotties at about 60 odd lbs each) had cornered my dog in his dog house....I picked up my .44 lever and shot both of his dogs dead...no sign of the neighbor...so, what to do?...well, 120 lbs of fresh meat and a little salt and I had them both in the freezer in no time...(I let my dog eat the scraps, it seemed reasonable)..A couple of weeks later, I invited the neighbor over for some bar-b-q....Its important to maintain good relations with the neighbors...
Eat what you kill... unless it's a zombie.

REDDING -- Redding animal control officials are holding two pit bulls that allegedly attacked a man in a wheelchair who was out with his dog.
The Record-Searchlight reports that Redding police and animal regulation officers were dispatched to the Martin Luther King Jr. neighborhood about 1:45 p.m. after several reports of dogs attacking people.
Witnesses say 57-year-old Charles Osborn was taking his dog outside when the two pit bulls escaped from an apartment and attacked him.
Animal regulation Capt. Lee Anne Smith says Osborn suffered punctures and cuts to his hands and arms while protecting his dog and fighting off the pit bulls.
Smith says the city will hold the pit bulls until they're released to the owner or the city holds a dangerous dog hearing.
