Transporting

Where you get into trouble is if you transport the gun in the trunk, once you open the trunk and the gun is out in the open, then you may have problem with the second portion of the transport laws of moving a gun from the trunk to the next place it will be. Best to keep it in a locked case in the trunk so you can legally move it from car to house, etc. This is in a nutshell, of course, as there are situation to situation exceptions, etc."Over-sentimentality, over-softness, in fact washiness and mushiness are the great dangers of this age and of this people. Unless we keep the barbarian virtue, gaining the civilized ones will be of little avail." - Theodore Roosevelt

You should post this in the LEOs section and see what they say-John McClaneThat punk pulled a Glock 7 on me. You know what that is? It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. Dosen't show up on your airport X-ray machines, here, and it cost more than you make in a month.Comment

In your OP you mentioned "ammo in the glove box".
There is no requirement to keep the ammunition seperate from the gun.
You can carry the unloaded gun, the ammo, and full magazines all in the same secure locked container without violating any law.
You can even have that locked container sitting on your lap while driving, if you so choose.
The key is, no ammo in the gun, and the case must be locked.sigpic
If you haven't seen it with your own eyes,
or heard it with your own ears,
don't make it up with your small mind,
or spread it with your big mouth.Comment

Are you talking about a handgun or a long gun?
Long guns don't need to be transported in a locked container and ammo may be transported in the same bag/case/container as the firearm. Please read the Calguns Wiki
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.
