    Transporting

New Cali gun owner and trying to learn here.

just reading on the transporting law.

so if the ammo is in the glove and the gun is in the trunk with the case? the trunk can act as a lock right? So do i still need to keep the gun lock on the actual gun in this case? or do i need the gun lock only if i remove it from the vehicle trunk to go into a building or facility?

You only need the gun lock if you remove it from the trunk (acts as a locked container).

The trunk acts as a locked container. A 'gun lock' has no use whatsoever regarding transport.

for example if i park at a hotel parking lot and walk from the car to my room with the mag in my pocket and the gun in the case(no lock on case)? is that considered concealed weapon violation?

        thanks

Maybe that depends on the "gun lock."

That's what I use to lock my Pelican case, with guns inside it, when I carry pistol and revolver outside the house.
Making guns illegal is as stupid as making drugs or prostitution illegal.

Oops. All I have are small locks for containers so my brain registered those as "gun lock". Returned the actual gun locks... I mean of course I have one for every gun.

thats what i meant? so in a unlockable case which i have, is what i need to have on the gun to carry it outside the house?

Yes - the case itself has to be locked.

IMO, that makes the things 'case locks', since they are applied to the cases.

Something about if you can touch the gun without removing the lock it's considered unlocked?

Consider these for your cases/bags as well.

It's the case that must be locked, not the gun. Please do read the article on transportation at the Wiki.

i figured it out...i can wrap my gun lock cord around my case handle making it not open wide enough for someone to take the gun out of the case without unlocking it. so i should be ok there

Wrong. All that a cop has to do is be able to touch the gun and you are boned.

It doesn't make sense but that is how the law has been decided.
