Yes its legal. Just really really gay. Less you are LEO or mil being forced to wear it at your LEO/mil range, I dont see why anyone would want to wear it other than wanting to be mall ninja like.
I remember during a mob up we passed some marines qualifying. They know how qualify right. uniform and soft caps, no k-pot or body armor. We were so jelous lol.

I know of one instructor whose plate saved him from a .380 wound. He said it still hurt like a mofo.

        Negligent discharges are scary.

We qualify the same. Just depends which type of unit you are with. Stationed at Ft. Lewis and my current unit, it was soft caps and ear/eye pro. That's it.

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

I would have liked to have worn body armor this last weekend. While I didnt get shot, I was swept by a the husband half of a man/wife couple who were familiarizing themselves with a (loaded) rifle that they won in a drawing.

I pointed the faux pas to him and he explained that his finger wasnt on the trigger...(Yeah- like only practicing some of the safe handling rules makes me feel better...) I wouldnt have felt like a mall ninja if it meant that I was going home after shooting instead of the coroner's slab.

Thats so awesome. The units I've been with, if they had access to old english full plate armor, they probably would of made us worn that lol

Wear whatever you think you'd be wearing if something happened. If that's a vest, go for it. If somebody is training without one, well, they're just not as well outfitted as you. I don't have one. If you do, you win.
Anyone who questions any government worker is now treated exactly the same as cop haters. So according to some, this is now cop bashing:
                      It's now extremism too:

I think the confusion stems from the felon restrictions...

After the Northridge incident, they passed legislation barring felons from possessing body armor, then it was struck down early this year, and then it was renewed this summer.

Although I totally agree with the "train how you fight" mentality 110%. Its a range. The same reason I was talking about some units make thier joes wear full battle rattle to qualify, its just a range and isnt any real training what so ever except hitting the paper or pop up. Granted I understand being in california there isnt a lot of places that allow you to shoot and move. But standing there and sending rounds down range isnt training at all. You can get better training done setting up targets and barriers in your back yard or house and running through with an airsoft copy of what you have. move to cover, engage, move, throw wife as distraction and so on and so on.
Plug but if you take one of FTA's classes with Bill Murphy, you can come back once a month at the end of the month and run through drills with the instuctors where you can move and shoot.
Really wish there was a 360 degree range but thats impossible, especially in this state. Hell I would even be happy with a 180 degree range but then only one person at a time could use it. Liability would be a ***** as well as unsurance.
If I were to go to the range dressed how I would engage someone in a realistic scenario that caters to me in my home, I would be at the range in my undies and flip flops with spare mag and cell phone tucked in the elastic

That sounds like a good idea. I usually shoot in the nude, but when the guy next to me has a semi-auto the hot brass can be a real pain. I think I will give it a try.

I used a vest as a target at the range once (no one was in it). Does that count?

So much ignorance and fail in this thread.

Easy to see who is squared away and who would be the soupsandwich around here!.

Vests should be mandatory in any training that involves firearms for a million different reasons.

                                Think about it.....................

If you have one, wear it, regardless of what people think or say. Set an example of someone with a prepared mind that understands what he is around.
