Just got through reloading another 1000 45's to shoot out of friends Thompson, or Grease Gun. Shooting FA guns is a lot cheaper using reloads. Going over to the Big Sandy shoot next month. We are so far taking over 30 FA guns, a 20mm German AA gun and one U.S. 20 mm gun. I don't think FA guns are over rated at all.

      Re: Full Auto Overrated?

I want to take out whole herds of deer and Buffalo.

      Of course it isn't overrated!

In all seriousness, it has its place just like semiauto. Remember, politicians said the same thing about semiauto as some people say about full auto now.

Overrated? Underrated? Neither. FA just is. Just like SA just is.

Do I want the choice? Yes. Would I? No idea... all I want is the choice to buy FA or not.

The American 180 shoots .22LR so you can burn up a lot of ammo for not much money.

          Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Not overrated if you have a narrow alley to clear with your AA12
Screw the environment! The sooner we trash this place the sooner we will have the political will to explore space and conquer the known universe, spreading like locust we will plunder, crush new enemies, take their women and if we are lucky, we shall meet our fate on the battlefield.

After getting yelled at for firing off 9 consecutive rounds on the same trigger pull once, I could almost hear the unmistakable sound of my old drill sergeants screaming "Short bursts! Short, controlled bursts, you F'ing retards!"

... Oh, and now I want one of those.

Full auto is overrated. Fast, accurate semi-auto fire is the way to go for defensive purposes. That said, I prefer the M3 greasegun to the Thompson. Firing a 3 round burst with a BAR was the most fun I have had with a full auto. Made a cloverleaf at 50 yards.

Never fired FA as a civilian.

                    The armory aboard ship had Thompson's & BAR'S + Garands, Carbines, 1911's
                    and shot guns.

Every cruise we'd haul them back to the fan tail and put rounds into the Pacific Ocean.

                    Then clean clean clean.

It was neat, but I wouldn't pay to shoot one.

Pat, I would disagree with you, I've used full auto for defensive purposes and it worked fine.

Stix213 pretty much sums it up. I had a select fire AR15 in the 80's, fired several thousand rounds through it. Nothing I had was "funner". it's like having a 500 horsepower sports car in SoCal....won't get you to work faster...but it's a hellva lot of fun.

for me, it was fun to shoot FA a few times, but the novelty wears off once the ammo bill starts to hit and range time turns mostly into reload time.

I own 2 machine guns and they are fun but the cost of ammo keeps me from taking out the M16. The mini Uzi is cheap enough and is a blast to shoot.

I'm sure there are situations where auto is warranted, but if practice you can shoot just as fast (depending on the gun).

I've shot semi AKs about as fast as they go on full auto, and I've shot my SLP faster than an AA12.

Plus if anything really goes down (Chinese invasion, zombie apocalypse, etc.), buy an AK. All you have to do to make it full auto is to find something to hold back the second sear (the one closest to the back), or take it off completely.

Having had both...I am confident in saying there is NO way you can come close to full auto on a semi pulling the trigger once for every round. Bump firing is a different story.
