No, I'm not much of an AR snob... because I don't much care for ARs.Comment

That's why I thought it was weird he seemed to group them together with cheap china crap.
it's funny how most of the people I hear talking badly about delton are people who have never owned one.Comment

I have an AR and an AK. There is a reason the military uses thes rifles. The AK is dependable. The AR is accurate. Both will penetrate a 6" concrete wall. The AR and AK are alittle overpowered for home defence and overpenetration is something to considered. But they are really fun on the range.
My 12 Ga with #4 buck or BB shot, or my 1911 are my self defence weapons of choice. Shot will hug a hallway wall rather than penetrate at an angle as a bullet will and shot will not go through an attacker and through a wall into your neighbors kids' bedroom like a bullet. Especially a magnum load such as the .357 or .44. There are flangible loads for the 45, etc. that will stop an attacker, But not penetrate 2 layers of drywall. Something everyone should look into due to the liability involved in any defencive shooting.
A .25 Cal. is NOT a good choice due to the fact you may need to empty the entire magazine in order to stop one assailant. If there are 2 or more... You're dead and whatever you have is now theirs. Your wife and daughter included. Same with a .38 special or 9mm. Something .40 cal of larger is best for actual defence. Peace of mind is all you will get from a 25. Not safety or the actual ability to defend yourself or others.
Yes. I have done some ballistics homework.Last edited by diginit; 09-12-2010, 10:08 PM.Comment

none of the above. put another option in there like "i don't have an AR and don't care because they're really not great"Comment

I voted for the first option because mine is a .308. Not one of those sissy .223/5.56 guns.Beretta PX4 Storm .40 S&W (Round Count 3,050) | Yugo M72 | Romy M44

I think you may have misunderstood the question. The thread title is: AR snobs, are you one? But the actual Poll Question is: Do you own an AR?. So I think choice #2 would have been your choice.

I think your thread title and poll question caused some confusion. even on your part. Clearly, it shows that most ar owners are not snobs.
Wait, now there are five. I hope this was understood to make light of the situation.
I think the poll has so far been a huge success. It was meant to be a somewhat comical, but slightly truthful commentary of the situation. There is some of the "elite" thinking when it come to the AR crowd as we can see by the poll results. It was not intended however to start dissent among calgunners. Too funny that it started to head in that direction and proves that the original question was worth asking.
Thanks for your participation.Originally posted by 11Z50Since your myopic view is in concurrence with your cognizant lifespan on this planet, obviously less than 20 years, I will grant you a dispensation.

I like high end everything... ARs are no exception. I don't judge other people's ARs though. Unless its a Stag...

There are just as many ak and fal snobs as there are AR snobs. Believe me I've ran into some REAL SNOBBY ak and fal owners in my time.
I prefer the AR platform and I prefer to BUY complete rifles.
Reason 1: I don't like to have a rifle where each part comes from a different company. I like to keep some type of pattern.(with the exception of stocks and external accessories)
2: I've noticed that AR's that have different parts from different companies don't have a very high resale value. I don't buy AR's to resell them but this fact keeps me from building my own and plus if what I like in an AR is already produced and offered in a complete set why build my own? I'm not saying building your own AR is a BAD idea, I'm just explaining why I don't build my own.
Well said sir.
What!? Stags are the best bang for your buck man.
I owned one and sold it only to buy me a piston M6A3. In the future if I ever come across a good deal on a STAG I will be buying another one.

I've built up 2 out of 5 that I had planned. So far they're just compromises because I can't get guns any newer than 1960's designs. Back in CT everything is illegal, it's almost as bad as here. So when I wanted a 9mm carbine, my options were very limited and they all sucked.
So my AR-15 is direct recoil 9mm, which is bad.Anyone who questions any government worker is now treated exactly the same as cop haters. So according to some, this is now cop bashing:
It's now extremism too:
