Prior to getting my CCW I did extensive research and paid for more updated training (5yrs retired MSG/ Infantry). Even got my wife squared away. We both own at least 2 handguns a piece and can use them if needed. Well, the other day we decided to clean out a storage unit and we took the trash back to our place (we are full time RVer's). No sooner had we arrived when a gentlman, that we did not know started yelling/ cursing at us and threatening us. I won't go into all of the details here, but suffice it to say that we had the backing and support of the Deputies and the Management and witnesses as far as the whole incident went. What was the stand out in all of this was the fellow decided to approach me in an aggressive manner, he had something in his hand and I could not see what it was. I immediatlety stepped backed and asked him loudly if he had a weapon (this was to alert my wife-used preplanned code). He didn't respond quickly and I moved away further. After looking around the trash can, luckily he turned and moved away. My stupid mistake- I wasn't carrying, it was in my car. It was hot and I was in shorts. I was using my smartcarry holster that day and the gun (M&P 40c was pushing my bladder (hadn't pee'd in awhile) so I took it off. Thank god, all my nagging and all the training I gave my wife was my saving grace. What no one else knew was that she had her gun on her. She moved into a defensive position and had it in her hand which was covered in her purse. Thank goodness he calmed down, we thought he was a mental case or real angry thug, turns out he was just a drunk ***. We did inform the Deputies that we carry and as I still work with the Army. Well they used that info to put this guy in his place as he has assualted neighbors in the past. They said his face turned white when they told him who I was and that my wife would have shot him. This is not a bragging story for me. It was actually an eye opener. We were both scared that we may have to defend ourselves and I was more scared that I would have to let my wife defend me because my dumbass put my weapon down. I should have been carrying. I will never make that mistake again. Lesson- if you can legally carry, do so. It could mean the difference in how you and your loved live the rest of your life. Let the BG suffer not you.

You also messed up and posted this in the Private Firearms For Sale forum. You should have it moved to the CCW forum. Glad everyone is ok and that you didn't shoot him.URL="http://www.nra.org/"][/url]NRA Life MemberComment

Good wife you have there, she kept her cool.
Glad it turned out okay. Sometimes at home, though rarely, I am busy with stuff and skip taking out the defensive firearm from the safe when I get home.
Thanks for keeping us on point.

Sorry I'm not savvy on changing the forum. Advice needed and appreciated.
Unfortunately, everytime one goes thru these types of incidents, your life changes just enough to make you think about things. What's even sadder for us was that it was our Anniversary day.Comment

Dont be sad....it could have turned out so much worse. Look at it as a "learning experience" and move forward.Originally posted by Lone_GunmanAmerican stormed the beaches of Normandy, not Europeans. I agree. just want it to be post in the proper forum so those who espoused.."if I live in a neighborhood where I had to carry or have a gun close by at home..then I would move."
Great story to point out that bad things happen to good people when they least expect it.Comment
