Been there; here's my wallyworld experience

    ::Meanwhile, at Wallyworld::

Spiggy: "Hi! I'd like to have a box of 12ga please"
    Clerk: "this box?"
Spiggy: "that's 9mm, the 12ga is behind you"

    Clerk: "This one?"
    Spiggy: "er no, that's 20ga"

    Clerk: "this one?"
    Spiggy: "yep, that's the one"

Clerk: "ok, I need your ID please"
    Spiggy: "Sure, here"

Clerk: "Sorry, it says you need to be 21 to purchase handgun ammunition"
    Spiggy: "Sounds Right, Take card?"

Clerk: "Sorry, I cant sell handgun ammunition to you..."
Spiggy:"Note the box says shotshells, denoting it's for a shotgun"

    Clerk: "I'm calling my supervisor..."
::10 minutes later, El Supervisio shows up::
*El Super looks at the screen, takes my card, swipes it, hands me a reciept*

El Super: Why do you need that much ammo? planning to shoot up a school or something?
Spiggy: *mentally thinking: "no, but there's a store I'm not happy with..."*
    * smiles, backs away towards exit*

    And here's my Big-5 Experience:
Clerk: "Sooh lee harvey, what can I get you?"
    *leaves*

The big 5 in woodland is no fun because the clerks acually like guns but the woodland walmart is a fun place to buy ammo. I always tell them that zombies are comming and I've got to stock up
      we need a zombie smiley

I wanted to buy an extra 10 rnd magazine for my AR one day while I was in a sporting goods store. I didn't see any on display so I asked the clerk if he had any AR magazines. He gave me a copy of Guns and Ammo and said that was the only magazine they had. That's when I noticed the real magazines hanging on the wall behind the counter and said I wanted one of those mags. The clerk said "Oh, you want a clip. You shoulda said so". This wasn't Wallyworld or Turners, this was Sportsman's Warehouse.

Next time ask him for a magazine clip(ing) and take a picture of the confused look on his face. Please don't ask him for .358 bullets to reload for your .38. He'll probabaly tell you that they won't fit and that you need .38 bullets instead.

I had an experience at Wal Mart in Union City once, I walked up and asked the Kid (looked like he was 16) for 9mm ammo. He grabbed a box of 7mm Rem Mag and tossed it onto the glass counter top which cracked when it landed. This ensued with alot of pointing and giving him directions on how to find the one Labeled very clearly 9 MM.

I had a similar incident, except with someone breaking the safety glass that the ammo is stored behind (like that glass would stop a criminal...)

Clerk would grab the wrong box (with body blocking so I couldn't see which box they grabbed) lock up the case turn around and start wringing up the box with me telling them it was the wrong ammo. Did it 3 times and the 4th time they threw the sliding glass to the side which caused it to explode!

I was amazed at how much tension safety glass is under to get it to shatter like that.

Years ago I was involved in a discussion on a non gun forum about whether or not a small arm could physically knock someone down. The original argument was chiefly about .45ACP. This was long before mythbusters talked about it. It was amazing the crap this guy spewed, and because he'd been there forever I hit a brick wall getting anyone to listen.

I was at a shop in burbank a few years ago and overheard a clerk telling a customer that ANY scope that was designed to shoot people was a sniperscope by CA law and therefore illegal.

Used to use a test with auto parts places.
Walk up to parts counter, ask for a rediator cap for a 66 VW BUG. If they ask you anything other than is this a joke walk away.

Need to develop the same thing for some stores. That being said all of the comments about stores need to hire people that know about about guns. Keep spending money in CA, not online and maybe we'd be able to hire/keep more people that are real shooters. When I hire someone they go thru my class, and we do OJT for their entire time with us.

You should'a told him "all we have right now is B-4, unless you can make do with some C-5, otherwise he'll have to settle for V-8."

I think this takes the cake

Was at Big 5 last week trying to get my a friend a good M44 that was on sale for $69.99. There were not any left in stock so the clerk went and checked to see if any other stores had them or if they were in the back (supposedly he did, but I doubt it).

"Sorry, that model has been discontinued, they don't make them anymore."

I am thinking to myself, well yeah, no ****ing **** the war ended 60 years ago.

Anyhow, I play it kind. "Aw, that sucks. I was trying to get my friend here started on his collection".

                      The Clerk responds with:

"My Grandpa has a Grenada. That's pretty cool."

                      I replied:

                      "Me too."

gawd i had a horrible experience at wal-mart where some overweight and clueless woman clerk 2 weeks before sold me 100rds or .223 the week before, then when I came back refused to sell them because I was under 21 at the time!!! I was angry, but she kept telling me the computer says I have to be 21. Since I was with a bunch of friends I didn't bother anymore and left, still I wish I demanded to talk to the manager about how stupid this was. btw it was the Glendora one.

The Big 5 in Fremont and in San Lorenzo is usually good. There is this blonde lady that works in the Firearms depts (At both stores, they make her go back and forth) and she knows her stuff fairly well.

My stepson from Indiana was visiting, and telling me about this cool .223 rifle he'd seen. My (very anti) M.I.L. immediately said "That shows just how stupid you gun people are. Who on earth needs a gun that fires two hundred and twenty three rounds a minute?"

My B.I.L. used to hunt and tells the tale of when he was parked, geared up ready to go into the woods, and a woman carrying a lap dog asked, snootily, what he planned to slaughter. "Ma'am," he swears he replied, "It's the start of rat dog season. Please put yours down and I'll give him a head start."
