    Perfect Trap Score?

So, in a rare thing for me (I once said to Gene Hoffman, "Our hobby isn't shooting, our hobby is [messing] with the DOJ")...I actually went shooting, today!

I had a friend who was interested in trap shooting. I think it'd been at least a year since I went out, so I expected to be rusty. But, of course, the time mostly just let my bad habits fall away, and on my first round I shot a 24.

I've only been trap shooting maybe half a dozen times, but that's the second or third 24 I've gotten, and I'm usually no lower than 22. It got me thinking - how common are perfect scores? I presume once I get a perfect score I'll want to make things harder by handicapping...but I was just wondering if anyone had any particular sense of whether I should be expecting "perfect" on a regular basis if I practice, or if it's unlikely?

Oh, and, my friend - it was his first time firing a shotgun, and he got 12 both rounds, so not a bad start!

Very common actually. That's why they start you at 16 yards and keep moving you back to 27 1/2! And it' not one round of 25 its 100, 4 rounds in competition and again, 100 scores are common...

Try Skeet, harder and you shoot 12, 20, 28, 410. And even there, Perfect scores have happened after a run of all gauges!

I shoot Skeet because I find it more challenging and have shot numerous Perfect scores, called 25 Straight...

      Perfect scores are pretty common.

A good challenge is 5-stand. Best of both worlds.

You need 25 for a perfect score.

Hard core trap shooters honestly don't get excited about 25 straight.... 100 straight rings their bell.

Me.... I'm totally okay with 25.

Skeet, sporting clays and 5 stand are all plenty of fun and ratchet up the degree of difficulty while more closely approximating hunting scenarios. But I enjoy all the clays games, and am down with a trip to the club as much as I can afford.

As others have mentioned, you want to shoot your first 100, not 25. I once saw a shoot-off where the winner in singles had to shoot over 750 straight without missing. I'm sure folks have broken 1,000 many times.

Trap is a great sport. Hopefully you'll continue and register some targets someday!

I had shot trap a couple times in the past, but really started getting into it this year. Purchased a 70's 870 Wingmaster Trap. Still not that good, my best has been a 22. I shoot 1-2 times a month. I need to work on my follow through.

I have shot Trap. I do shoot Skeet, some 5 Stand and Sporting Clays. I agree, 5 Stand is probably the hardest and Sporting Clays is a close second. Hard to establish a rhythm and no two ranges are the same. "Golf with guns" is the description I give for Sporting Clays...

I shoot every week and find that practice does make the difference. Muscle Memory is key to all three and more important in Trap.

Hello. New to the site here, but do any of you know where in San Diego County or Riverside county there is a listing of trap, skeet, 5 stand or sporting clays ranges that I can look up online?

                  Thanks.
