My better half and I just bought a couple of handguns in there. They were quite nice. The store was crowded but we made it clear we were serious. Especially Ms. Monkeshine - she spotted her ideal handgun within minutes and was hitting me up for a loan to cover the difference (I had expected she would buy a .38 but she ended up with an absolutely gorgeous and quite serious .357 mag with 4 inch barrel, 7 shot, chrome finish with oak colored grips.)

At first it was one person who showed us the weapons and while she and I decided how to divvy up the expenses, he went on to help someone else. When we decided we were ready we realized we needed to take the tests! We were coming up on closing time so we jammed through the tests. At first Rick balked at the idea we could get it all done in time but he decided to try anyway. It was nice of him because the store was crowded but I think he knew we would buy the weapons if we got it all done that day.

I think it was Rick who helped her and I with the tests. He then went on to help with her purchase. I had to wait, and finally even though it was closing time Randy came over and helped me get everything done since the store was thinning out. While I was doing my paperwork, she found a very nice used holster.

We got it all done in about an hour and 15 minutes from finding the weapons to taking the tests to buying the weapons.

        Overall very nice experience.

They won't negotiate on price at all it seems though he did in the end give her $5 off the holster.

Oh yeah - I ended up buying the weapon I thought she would get - the S&W model 642-2 .38 caliber internal hammer all black. They had a used one for $429 but I bought a new one, $499, $50 rebate. By the time you add up the cost of the lock and the rebate, it was barely a $15 price difference, might as well go with new I figured.

I've been visiting so. cal gun stores for more than 20 years, when there used to be B&B, beach cities armory, SPWI (i think), Kings, and a bunch of others that I just dont remember their names. I would have agreed that rettings was pretty unfriendly back in the day. I have to say that of late, they actually seem to be pretty helpful and friendly. They do seem to be pretty packed so there's usually a wait but once you get someone to help they spend a lot of time with you. I've never done a ppt through them, but they've said they would be happy to do it. Just my 2cents.

I think I still have a SPWI t-shirt somewhere from 20 years ago...
