There are a couple of really well informed, friendly, helpful, decent guys that work there. There are also a few raging idiots that do nothing but spew verbal diarrhea. (the tall white haired guy with the Jack Nickleson joker smile) is a real douche nozel.
I steer clear of the jag offs, and only deal with the guys who I know are cool.

Never knew about the one on Wilshire. Sound like a couple of real jerks though.

I had to chuckle at this, I know one of the countermen down there is a CalGunner. Don't know his user name or anything.

Like I said in my other posts, I've never had a problem down there, (other than overhearing annoying FUD) but it seems that most of the feedback I've seen on CG and other gun boards has been more negative than positive.

Let me add another Retting sucks post. Back during the Clinton buying hysteria my wife bought a Sig from Retting. When she went to pick it up there was only one mag in the case. When questioned about, it they told her that the gun was only shipped from the factory with one mag, even though the case showed that there were two mags in it . (foam impressions). Have not been back since.

From What I understand Mr. Martin B. Retting was one of the most knowledgeable small arms experts on the planet back when he was alive. Despite being a Jew, Mr. Retting bore a striking resemblance to Adolf Hitler -- including the mustache. Though it was brought up to him in conversation, Mr. Retting refused to change his style because he had it before Adolf did.

Supposedly some truly remarkable firearms collections have flowed in and out of Retting's over the years -- many coming from nearby Beverly Hills and environs. I heard about one collection of over 100 double barreled and single-shot black powder cartridge rifles -- many rare, that was offered for $10,000 in the late 1950's. Mr. Retting had just acquired them from an estate and gave at least one person a chance to buy the whole lot at a nice discount...

Ask for Randy, the one with glasses, he is always very patient, courteous and helpful; I try to steer clear of the rest when ever I can help it.

Does anyone remember a small gun shop on La Brea in LA called The Brass Rail?

It was just north of Santa Monica Bl on La Brea.
Ha ha. I do remember, i believe it was called Gun World-Brass Rail. I used to work at Gun World-Pasadena back in the 90s, they had a few stores and a shooting range in Van Nuys. Anyone know if they're still around? I think most of the branches closed down quite a few years ago.

I have done a lot of business at rettings and they've always treated me nicely, even though I'm 24, and I don't spend heaps of money there. I sometimes go into the store on my lunch break (I work a few doors down) to see what's new or to buy accessories. The only times I see them being 'short' with anyone is when that person is asking for it, either by their actions or words. Also, there are about 10 different guys working at rettings, so if one doesn't jive with you, ask another guy his opinion. Randy, Gray and Bruce have all been great guys to me.

There was a time when Paul Cole, owner of Gun World was opening new stores. He bought the Brass Rail, opened the Discount Outlet, and the store in Pasadena. I worked for they guy who provided the stores and the range with all the reloads.

Yes - and when I first moved to LA back in the late 1980's/early 90's, I worked right around the corner from there for a couple of years at my first job in LA; I used to walk over to Brass Rail at lunch. It was an odd shop - set up always looked very shanty-like to me. BUT... miss the number of shops that used to speckle LA.

Used to go to Pony Express frequently, LA Guns, B&B, even several pawn shops that used to carry a nice selection of guns in the Hollywood area and the valley. There was one on Vine just south of Sunset that had a great collection of guns considering it was a pawn shop. Now most pawn shops in the LA are no longer carry ANY guns AT ALL!

And I DO remember the shop at Wilshire and Olympic, but never bought anything there. I drove over there once to check out what they had, and they were gone - the store was an empty shell.

I never made it over to LA Guns. I didn't even know they ever existed until they were already gone.

It's on Sunset, right across the street from the Whiskey, Key club and all those other bars.
