I've been to On-Target in the past week, and it was definitely a great experience. Staff was working their butts off the entire time to keep everyone shooting. I didn't see the usual groups of salesmen chit chatting with each other that you see at other stores. They were professional and accommodating. Air conditioner worked (THANK YOU!) and all of the stalls were clean, and well lit. I see myself becoming a member very shortly!

Gregg, thank you for running a tight ship. I've been in there years before and left multiple times with a bad taste. This last visit completely turned my opinion around, keep doing exactly what you're doing!
Quick answer to this is the audit issues we have to put up with from ATF and DOJ -- they just have to be able to touch every firearm at any time to see serial number etc .. so locking them up in a case won't work -- I never have a problem if someone wants a lock on the firearm -- just doesn't fit in the case very well, but we do let them all the time.
    Regards

There you have it. Just lock the action with a gun lock and problem solved.

The lock would have been a good idea. To be on the safe side I will not be doing any transfers at on target. I'll stick to the places like Ade's that I trust. I tried to call the owner but he wasnt in, I'll try again sometime this week but odds are nothing will be done. Even if the owner knows about it they wouldn't risk their reputation to let that out it would end their business and I can't blame them for that..

The only good of this will hopefully let people know they should lock up their guns at this place.

Thanks for all the input guys.

Totally worth it if your leaving a $1000- $3000 rifle with someone. Its my firearm and I make sure no one uses it without my permission.

This is the answer to ANY transfer. NEVER, EVER leave your firearm on the 10 day hold without securing it.

If the shop employees tell you to leave the key, remind them that they are there to facilitate the transfer only. You are still the legal owner unless DOJ says otherwise and as such you intend on securing your property while in their possession.

If the store employee has a problem with it, go to the manager. If the manager has a problem, go higher. If the owner has a problem, whip out a camera and start taking DETAILED pictures of your firearm including the chamber. Make sure do write ANY and ALL defects down and have the store owner sign the paper.

I have yet to find a manager who said no to allowing me to cable lock my purchase.

This post really begs the question:

What kind of gun costs nearly $5K, and assuming the gun was fired a few (even a hundred) times, put away, and not cleaned, exhibits a whole bunch of failure to feed issues?

Am I really supposed to believe that whatever gun we're talking about is having a bunch of problems because someone shot it and didn't clean it?

            Damn!

CORBIN ---- Forgot to say that you should not lock it in a case -- the firearm should/could be locked, but must be able to be handled by ATF and DOJ to verify the serial number -- last JUNE had one case we had to cut the lock off for our three week audit -- the auditor was quick to say sorry, but the rules say they must see and touch it -- we bought a new lock for the customer when they came in. Was not a problem with customer at that time.

ALL --- Still no contact with anyone about this issue -- had message given to me about a call last Saturday about this subject, but no followup so far.

Have reviewed this issue with each employee on a one-on-one discussion to see if there is at any time in the last month there may have been a PPT firearm taken and shot. Nothing from anyone, not even an inkling of maybe something that looked out of place. With three or more employees here 95% of the time someone would had to have seen something, or suspect something.

If anyone feels the 10 day jail time here for their firearm is an issue - don't bring them. I do PPT's because I have to. Each PPT takes 40 minutes of paperwork time and I am TOTALLY responsible for the firearm for the next 10 days.; All this at zero profit. The so called money I make from a PPT does not even cover time it takes the person doing the PPT paperwork.

If someone wants to shoot THEIR firearm during the 10 days we let them - that is the ONLY person allowed to do so. By doing a PPT here it allows the new owner time to shoot their firearm.

At this time I don't believe there is an issue - but I have been wrong before and probably will be again - at least according to my Wife and Kids, but at this point of time I need additional data to conclued there was a problem.

Same serial numbers on the gun? I heard of shady stuff going on there before the new ownership took over. I heard ATF raided On Target along time ago, again before the new staff took over. The new staff is very professional and helpful. I dont think they would do something like what you are referring too. They wont risk a lawsuit for something so stupid.

I've been a member at On Target for several years, and have gotten to know a few members of their staff pretty well. I wouldn't say I know the OWNER well, but I certainly know him, and I certainly believe him when he says that if he finds anything wrong - whoever did it is DONE.

He is a stand up guy, and it is a stand up place. They have several part time people that seem to rotate on and off of a schedule. You'll see some people every few days for a few weeks, and then not seem them again for a month or so. They also have a core staff of a few guys that are there ALL THE TIME. Dave, Taek (spelling?) and James, to name a few.

For someone to have shot a customer's gun would be almost impossible without one of these guys noticing it, and NONE of those three are the type to let that type of crap go down.

I guess I can't swear on my life and Jesus' name that there is no way in hell it happened - in the real world anything can happen. But if it did happen, it is because some creepy little bastard did it with no one else knowing, and when Greg finds out about it - there will be hell to pay.

Obviously the people posting aren't just liars trying to stir the pot - but the staff at On Target are NOT the people that would ever encourage, allow, or even tolerate such behavior. I'd leave any of them the keys to my car, my house, my gun safe - anything.

I literally can't speak highly enough of the staff at On Target, and I hope that if anyone that is reading this thread is on the fence about whether or not they should give On Target the benefit of the doubt..........they decide to give them a chance.

I have no problem with the staff at On Target. None of my PPTs guns ever looked like they were shot or handled while in waiting period

So no word yet on the $5K gun that was fired a few times, not cleaned, and now has excessive FTF issues?

Really like to know what we're talking about here.

Sounds like a gun I want in my collection......

Simple solution, stop giving these guys your business. I can honestly say that every time I've gone to this shop I've always left remembering why I didn't like going there. There is always some jerk behind the counter with a lame attitude. The worst was this Asian guy with hair that looked like he jammed his finger in a wall socket. Ade's, Grant Boys in costa mesa and Turners ( signal hill and Torrance NOT fountain valley!!!) rock! These guys were friendly and professional, I am more than willing to travel out of my way to give them whatever business I can....now if only Grant Boys would bring their prices down a touch....
