    On Target in Mission Viejo

Has anyone here experienced any issues with guns transferred at On Target in Mission Viejo?

After completing my last transfer there (a trade between myself and another Calgunner), both guns are having issues. My gun was absolutely perfect, and it is not now. The gun I traded for was absolutely clean when I looked at it the day we did the deal, after firing about 10 rounds through it and experiencing jam after jam, I stopped firing it. Upon cleaning it, it was extremely dirty, much too dirty for 10 rounds to have caused. I also found a broken pin and bent extractor.

This is not the first time this has happened. I transferred a rifle to someone through that place a couple years ago. When I did the deal, the rifle was perfect. The new owner took it to the range the day he picked it up and had an issue with it. Now that it has happened again, I am wondering what is going on.

Anyone else here have a similar experience with that place?

I was a member at on target 4 years ago. I have transfer firearms there in the past. I like there range because you can shoot rifles. I did go shooting back there is all new staff. Seems the old staff were way cool. I'm sure that's because shooting there 4 times a week you kinda know everyone. I do not like a few new rules such as the new rifle cards but no issue with safety. I know why they enforced the rifle cards . I was there when it happen. The guy in the lane next to me had a 30-06 he just got done shooting the rifle then he sat down on a chair he was using it to bore site his scope with. I saw the guy sit on the chair and he had the rifle pointing at the ceiling . He unloaded the bolt and slammed a new round in it. When he slammed a new round in it his pinky hit the trigger and the firearm went off. We both looked at each outer like uck. A week later it rained and they had a leak on the roof they said there was a hole in the roof and it went threw some thick steal on the sec floor. I will tell you if you have a nice rifile it may get shot if left there. I was there one night when there was a huge ArmLite rifile 338 lupa . I will not say who but one of the staff let one of the customers shoot it. I know it was a transfer firearm that was left there. I seen the firearm shot twice in one week . You away take a chance wile transferring a firearm at the range someone may shoot it. I do however love on target if you get a member ship and shoot often you can rack up tons of brass. Onsight off pionner is hard as hell to get brass .

That's in really bad taste if they are indeed letting customers or employees mess with somebody else's property.

I really doubt On Target is shooting Transfer Weapons.

I've been going to On Target since 1993..

They would never take rifles or pistols out of the holding safe and feel free to SHOOT them..! How ridiculous.

'Both guns were having issues..?'..so they shot both guns until they broke..?..hahaha..and put them away without cleaning them.?...hahah..do you expect us to believe your story.?...sorry..no.

I've done transfers without problems. In fact I have a new weapon in the holding safe right now that they (Brent) went to great lengths to order for me. These people are tops in customer service..!

As for the AD with a 30.06.....wow..how is that their fault.?..they have rules and we should respect that fact. They need to protect hundreds of people everyday from DUMMIES who are clueless.

From your post it looks like you bought a gun with a pin and extractor problem. I suggest you TEST FIRE everything you purchase and bring a GUN LOCK with you to lock up the weapon while waiting for those 10 days to pass.

Posting unverified accusations about a great Target Range and Gun Store begs several questions. You have absolutely no evidence that the extractor was working well when you bought the weapon. So why post trash to begin with.?

You must know that these kind of false stories will hurt their business.....don't you..?

Oh sure....Rare ammo that costs $140 for 20 rounds and the STAFF just happened to let some customers load it up and shoot it....TWICE in one week..!...??

                Hahaha..

Isn't it more likely that On Target had the gun on CONSIGNMENT and let potential cash paying customers try the weapon first..?...duh.....

What you thought was a Transfer Firearm that happened to have spare ammo sitting around was really a Consignment firearm that the owner purposely left a few rounds of ammo for potential customers to shoot.

                What scenario is more likely...?...

You would be surprise, stuff goes on at places all the time, Turners for instance sometimes pull stuff out of the hold to show their regulars the uniqueness of a rare firearms, it happened more than a few times when I worked there back in the 1990's, you would be surprise how often your guns gets fingered while it's sitting in the holding cell. Now if it's a plain Jane 1911, chances are it won't, but if it's a Yost, it deffinitely will.

I won't mention any names, I had a Nighthawk GRP consigned at a local gunshop, I get a call saying if I can give a discount since it had a scratch, I said, scratch? I left it there brand new, I went to the shop, and sure enough , some idiot made a 3" deep scratch on the slide, I asked the owner and he said, it came in that way. I was able to sale it and took a small loss, I was mad because the shop didn't own up to it, the only way the scratch could have been made is, if the gun was taken apart and examine. this would point to the gunsmith of the shop, I'm sure he wanted to know what makes a nighthawk a nighthawk. After this incedent, everytime I do a consigment in that shop, before I submit it, I take pics of it in their shop, so that there is no denying. The owner sold the shop and I seldom go there anymore... but getting back to the OP, yes, these things do happen and yes, if a range is accessable, I can see employees letting their regular try out exotics (stuff like high end 1911s, rifles, etc..) as far as Ammo 338 is pretty reasonable if you reload...

With all due respect to Bongos, I have a different opinion about On Target.

I've been a member of On target for three years. I know the staff well, and there is no one working there who would allow a gun in lock up to be used by staff or a member, its totally out of the question. The place is the best run range in SoCal. Most of the staff is former USMC and all that entails, which is a heck of a lot when it comes to safety and courtesy.

As to idiots shooting rifles there, yes...I have seen some examples of brainless clueless people doing things that are unacceptable. I don't wait for an employee to intervene, I talk to the person in question and than call in the staff immediately to rectify the solution. No it doesn't win you any friends, but it could also save your life..better to be safe than popular.

Stop spreading rumors because you might have bought a messed up gun. If you transfer it there, take the time to shoot it first. Thats the beauty of transferring a gun at a range. Break it down, strip it, examine it, but don't make some Wild Ars Accusation about a great group of guys.

                        Oceanbob..

I am the other cal gunner he is referring to and the pistol i traded him was flawless, it was stripped down at the time of our trade and it did not have any extractor issues.

Drankol is telling the truth, his gun which i got is having failures as well.. They may have cleaned mine since it's stainless the gun he got is all black and maybe they just said what the heck? I'm also convinced some knuckle head shot our property. I actually recall the guy at the counter commenting on my firearm saying he wish he could afford that pistol.. Maybe he or some others behind the counter figured they would take em for a test drive during the 10 days..

These 2 guns were not a couple basic glocks but pistols that would retail for apprx $4600-4800 new

                        Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I have sold over 25 firearms to members on this site, i do not f.... Around and i truly go out of my way to ensure everyone i deal with is happy or I would not have the feedback that I do.

Neither pistol was in the condition of when we traded, I'm sorry to say but you have two people that are anal about their guns here and this sh** does not add up!

I'm not making story's up . I was a member of on target for many years . I would shoot Mon--Thurday every week for a year straight . I,m not saying that on target would shoot anyone's Dros gun's. I'm telling you there was a large armlite rifle that was on display next to the counter by the sig display it was a private transfer riffle. They left it on display because they had many shooters ask about the rifle. I watched 2 times one a employ shoot it and one night a customer shoot it because he was so stunned about it. I'm not going to say who did it because i;m not going to get anyone in trouble. But believe it or not it happened. I bought 2 new guns there and non of them were shot. You can be stunned about my post but I'm not here to lie about something that did take place.

Oceantbob knows zero about what's going on here, and is just trolling for a rise, so thanks for you valued input...

It was suggested to me by another CGN member, who shot the gun I traded to Swoop the last time I did, that it isn't out of the question that good, top quality custom parts are being swapped out for crap overseas made parts.

If On Target is doing this, then that is some f'd up BS, but how do we prove it? It's not like they'd admit to it.

It seems to me that when dealing with other honorable members on Calguns, they tell the truth, and the weak link in this series of stewardship is the unknown party at On Target.

I also served in the Marines, and my guns are always cleaned to white Q-Tip cleanliness and in top working order.

So my thanks to Bubbapug and Bongos for their input, and if others here have something of value to add, please do, but slinging comments about false accusations are opinions best kept to yourelves as you have no grounds upon which to make those comments. Here we have two Calguns Senior members saying that what went in did not come out, so we're either both stoned and/or liars out to get On Target for some wild arse, unfounded reason, OR! maybe, just maybe we are both telling the truth and we suspect that something less than kosher is going on.
