You ask and you get: my 1919 build.

Well I have most of the pictures, I can't seem to find the riveting or welding ones. I'll have the pictures of the beautiful German exchange student and I firing it in 2 weeks or so. I also have the other build pics somewhere, ask about them if you want to see.

Goes in order of: arrived parts kit, drilling RSP holes, completed RSP, removing the booster, making sure it didn't move, lunch break, building the transit case, on unfinished tripod (note there is only 10 rounds linked), and in the box.

Hi Pat, was this one of the Israeli parts kits in .308?

How long did the build take, just one day?

What kind of welder did you use? 1919a4.com says mig, tig or arc, and doesn't mention oxyacetylene, would oxyacet work, it's the only kind of setup I have at the moment.

Where did you get the sideplate, ARS, Ohio?

Did you beadblast and repark after the build?

Nice work by the way, thanks for the pics, Chris

Sooo, at what point in time would you be taking this beast to the range? I'm gonna be home for the week of thanksgiving and I wouldn't be averse to making a trip to one of the ranges to see it in action

Those are the exact same questions I was going to ask! I want to gather up some parts and build some time, there is no hurry. Do the Israeli kits come demilled, or do any of them?

Yes thanks very much for the detailed info, yours looks very impressive. It'd make a great coffee table decoration, but likely as not it's kept in the safe.

If I do get a kit I'll hang out at 1919a4.com a bit more and may even pester you with a few questions. '

That's great news about the no-weld decision for a variety of reasons, thans again for the posts on this, looking forward to the upcoming pics.

I built three myself (one with my uncle around for him ). I prefer grease as a lube- the oil is just a mess, esp. if you want to clean it later. I figured if the Israelis used oil in their guns, it would look like a sandcastle out there in about 15 minutes.

If you don't park the bolt, it seems to function a lot smoother. If you parkerize the bolt, it takes a LONG time to wear smooth again

I just have the 7.62 parts that came with the kit, and the 8mm conversion. I have a few old original cloth belts (pre-ca ban!), and an original M2 tripod. Sometimes being a pack rat pays off

The Izzy kits seem to have a very stiff ratchet spring on the left sideplate. It feeds cloth belts great, but binds up the links sometimes. We're ordering up some softer ones for links. Too bad the M60 links don't work wihout the insane C5 conversion. I have all manner of oddball links around from ammo I ordered eons ago- some useful, most not.

Yeah I have one pre-ca ban belt, other then that its the 10 round links. My grandpa gave it to me when I was 6 along with a WWII Canco ammo can, his Filipino Army Scout uniform, and some other stuff he brought back from the Pacific Theatre. He also made me a wooden 1919, I blame him for the need for WWII guns, rest his soul.

I hope those taquitos aren't bigger than .50. Or else you can go to jail for illegal possesion of gas inducing taquitos.

                            Nice build!
