OK so a while back wifey washes my 501's, and neglects to remove my wallet. Unfortunately, nestled deep in my BMF, along with a few risque snapshots, and some old punk show ticket stubs, was my HSC card. Needless to all this stuff was pretty much pulp when she fished it out of the washer (funny how the few bucks cash were not destroyed, but never seemed to find their way back) No big deal, the HSC's gonna expire in January anyway, I havent really been buying to many pistols lately, so it wasnt really that urgent to get a replacement.
Anywhoo, fast forward to today (well, last night)...I have a handgun DROS coming up, and need to score a replacement card. I pass Turners Norwalk on the way home, and walk in about 830PM or so. I pay may 25 bucks, and the girlie behind the counter gives me a receipt and tells me to present it and my ID at the hunting counter. OK, I head back there, and there are 2 sales people, the surly old woman doing a DROS, and some older bald chubby guy who I've never seen before, arguing with a customer over the merits/drawbacks of 300WinMag and 300WSM. OK waiting patiently...
8:42PM, the older lady tells me "I'll be right with you." OK...still waiting. The other customer splits, and just as I turn to go to the other end of the counter where the salesman is, some older dude goes right up to him, and shakes his hand and they start BSing about spearfishing and SCUBA and all kinds of crap. I was gonna say something, then I thought well they know each other, I dont wanna be a dick, and besides the other lady is almost done. I think....
About 850 she says "Are you here to take the test?? I can't give it to you, we're out of here at 9."
I said, "I've been patiently standing here for over 10 minutes, waiting to take a test I already paid for, I was even here before these other people, and now your telling me I cant take the test??"
"Thats right sir, you'll have to come back tomorrow"
In a huff, I go to the cashier and ask for my money back, and she tells me she needs the managers approval.
Long story even longer, manager Dave (who in my limited dealings with him, seems to be an honest stand up guy) comes, I plead my case, and he says "Well sir, she is right, we do close at 9, but I'll honor it." I take my test, finish in like 3 minutes, and end up with a perfect score. He makes her fill out my card, I can tell she's mad. I apologize for making her stay 2 minutes past closing, and promise her that I will email Don to let him what a fine bunch of individuals (note, individuals, not team players) he has working in the Norwalk store, especially Barbara. I get this cold look back, with "Your card is good for 5 years, have a good night sir."
