I took the test back in 2002(BFSC) when I purchased my Glock. I was told it was a one time deal and good for life(which it was at the time)

I went over to Oak Tree Gun club to possibly purchase a new hand gun from them. I pulled out my card and they said sorry. The state reneged on there promise and you will have to do it every five years now.

Is there anything that prevents the state from progressively turning this easy as hell, foolish test into something so complicated it would be difficult for anyone to pass?

Some states had tests you had to take before you were allowed to vote too. Why? They wanted to keep certain people from voting. Could this state construct a test, or some other method, to keep people it doesn't like from buying handguns? Oh yeah.

Yep, those were the days when a DD214 (proof of military service) was still an exemption to buy a handgun. I didn't break down and get an HSC till last year when I bought my first Glock.

I just took the test last week to buy my first handgun and was stunned at how easy it was. Anyone who fails that test should not have guns for lack of common sense...

Yup. Just like BART would never charge for parking, income tax is temporary (and voluntary), etc.

The means is in place for them to charge whatever they please.

A lot of people laugh at the test but a lot of people also fail it.

Voting tests - and the difference between those given blacks and whites - is what I had in mind actually.

What entity constructs the test and its questions? Decides how many questions, how their constructed, what's a passing grade?

There's one question on the current test - "where do you point the muzzle?" & IIRC the answers are 1) straight up in the air 2) downrange 3) a direction where no one gets shot if the gun goes off & I don't recall answer 4. I think 3 is the answer, but 25 questions & answers like that and a 100% correct to pass - first, it's not so farfetched that could be required and safe to say lots of folks would flunk. Then I suppose we'd be headed off to court.

Yea I was surprised to find the D214 was not honored any more. Like CA can do better than Uncle Sam?

Well poor people can complain it keeps them from their 2A rights.

True, I agree... its not about the money for most of us.

But I think for some (say those who can only afford a $200 pistol), it does represent a significant extra cost.

Free, unrestricted gun ownership, I thought that was what 2A mentioned, no?

                                There, fixed it for you.

I have rarely ever met a person who didn't think all THOSE people out there are idiots, and THEY are the smart ones. Look around you, it's like a disease. We are all smart in our own ways right? Is it that far of a stretch to say we are all idiots in our own ways? That doesn't mean we shouldn't be allowed to speak freely, or not incriminate ourselves, or own guns. All of which are rights under the constitution. And none of which, except for the last, you have to pay to exercise.
