    Firearm transportation on two wheels

Let say a bunch of motorcyclists wanted to go shooting. What are the laws? I suppose I could try to stuff a handgun under my locked with a key seat but what about a rifle in a riflebag?

I know its like asking for trouble here in the republic but amuse me.

I wouldn't strap a rifle to by back and ride unless you like police attention. If I ride bike to range I do try to lock up pistol or disassemble. I actually have taken a rifle to the range on a bike though. It is a Rossi takedown pump 22lr. Just broke it in half and put in a large backpack. It helps I have saddlebags too.

I should have my MC license in a couple of weeks, and I've been pondering this. Something along these lines should work for long guns:

Though, for me, a much MUCH cheaper version...

As far as pistol shooting, I'll either just toss it in my locked container, then into a backpack with ammo and stuff, or if I need the backpack space, the locked container goes into the tank bag.

If you're too scared about being hassled by the police, get a soft-side guitar case for the rifle.

I don't see how it'd be illegal to actually just sling an unloaded rifle and ride, but I can see where it'd be dangerous and could make some people nervous.

I've seen someone with a hard case strapped sideways on the back seat going to Chabot. Just be carefull passing the bicyclists.

If you want to be stealthy, some kind of golf travel bag might work. I've seen that on a motorcycle once before, but it probably had actual golf clubs in it.

If it's unloaded and in plain view or stowed away you should be fine.

              I've done two different ways,

pistols locked under the seat or in a case in my backpack or saddlebag.

rifles slung on a strap, or bungeed in a soft case to the handlebars, or if you have a package rack/ saddlebags you can bungee it there.

you can also get a leather scabbard made up that just lets it slip in.

I know a guy who has a leather scabbard for his .22 on the forks of his bike.

you may get hassled, but you're legal if its not loaded.

I've gone down 101 with a rifle strapped to my back. Perfectly legal BUT, when (not, if) you get pulled over, do everything the officer says and be able to justify why you are doing what you are doing as well as, why it is legal.

Wouldn't reccomend just slinging one in this area... I'd love to, but I think 911 lines would be clogged with panicked morons calling about a "psycho with a gun."

What about in a soft ball bag? They make them with large padded pockets for bats (not individual pockets), and with packpack straps!

Or an paint ball rifle backpack bag...

I have a friend who is an amazing wood and leather worker currently making me some custom cases to transport a shotgun (broken down) and an AR-style rifle (again broken into upper and lower) on my bike (bicycle.) I'll post pics of how they turn out, but it'll be a few months.

I vote for Guitar bag.No one would ever expect it to be a rifle/shot gun, and most of them have a front pocket for mags and what not.. But find one with a soft interior. I would suggest the Coffin Case Body Bag.

I should accually use my gig bag for a weapon case.. seems how my guitar doesn't fit it and i sold the one that did..

Thought quite a bit on this while riding, also the question has come up during CMSP (motorcycle) classes.
No advice here, just things to think on while loading up.

If the bike quits (for whatever reason) running while enroute, what do you do?
Knowing that if you leave the bike, it may not be there when you get back.

Do you stay with bike or take a walk?
If you walk do you take your guns & ammo or leave them?

If you stay with the bike and someone stops to offer you a ride to get your truck, what are you going to do?

If someone stops and you have the feeling they have something more sinister on their minds rather than just helping, what action are you going to take?

When the CHP stops to investigate why you are on side of road what will be your response to his/her questions?

Again these are things to think on, I offer no advice other than to think about these things ahead of time and plan accordingly.

Up here in the central valley its not uncommon to see rifles out and about. The shooting club is way out in the country so one sorta makes a plan when going to shoot.

This isn't a part of the course, just things that naturally come up in conversation during the 2 day evolution, like tire pressures.

*sigh* It's really good, living in a free country... Perhaps the lack of Westerns on TV is causing the decline of rational thought regarding guns? Just seeing a gun makes people call the cops? That's just sad. Then again, I get hassled for my knife, too. The mental midgets abound!!

THAT I would like to see. When I ride at Los Padres, I carry a pistol, but I like your idea better!
